The machines may include an operative structure configured to perform a task, where the operative structure includes a cutting tool adapted to move in at least one motion, and a safety system adapted to detect the occurrence of an unsafe condition between a person and the cutting tool and for mitigating the unsafe condition. The safety system may include a detection subsystem and a reaction subsystem.

Blade guard (20) configured to partially cover a rear face of a circular saw blade (9) while leaving a front face (9b) of the saw blade uncovered. The blade guard comprises: a guard plate (21) having an inner face (21a) configured to face the saw blade (9); and an elongated shielding unit (50) fixed to the guard plate (21) and configured to cover a part of the peripheral edge (14) of the saw blade.

The shielding unit comprises several shielding elements (52) arranged side by side along the shielding unit, each shielding element comprising a shielding member (53) and a resilient cantilever support member (54), wherein the shielding members are arranged side by side in a row in order to form an elongated barrier (55) capable of stopping cutting debris. The support members (54) allow the shielding members (53) to move in relation to each other and in relation to the guard plate (21).

A cutting machine can include a cutting machine body that is movably supported above a table and capable of vertical movement, the cutting machine body can be positioned at an upward waiting position and a lower end position. The cutting machine body can include an auxiliary cover positioned around a portion of a blade and including a projection. When in the upward waiting position the auxiliary cover is not able to move upward because of the position of the projection, and in the lower end position the auxiliary cover is able to move upward.

A cutting machine can include a cutting machine body that is movably supported above a table and capable of vertical movement, the cutting machine body can be positioned at an upward waiting position and a lower end position. The cutting machine body can include an auxiliary cover positioned around a portion of a blade and including a projection. When in the upward waiting position the auxiliary cover is not able to move upward because of the position of the projection, and in the lower end position the auxiliary cover is able to move upward.

PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENT FOR BAND SAW

Machine vision apparatus tracks a distinctive object in relation to a hazardous location on a work surface of a modified band saw in two, three, or four (3-D+T) dimensions, and calculates whether to send an “immediate shut-down signal” to the band saw. Cameras and an image processor are mounted on the band saw. The signal causes an integrated blade-arresting or stopping mechanism to immediately shift the idler wheel, removing blade tension and disconnecting the blade which is then braked to a complete, safe stop before an approaching blue-gloved hand can touch the blade.

The stop arm includes a main section which is manufactured from a first material and which extends over more than half the longitudinal extension of the stop arm, and at least one second end section which is arranged on an end of the main section which is located in the longitudinal direction. The second section is able to come into contact with the saw blade given an advance of the workpiece towards the saw blade, where the at least one end section is manufactured from a second material.
