Methods of making, and the resultant monolithic drum shell for a musical instrument, that include selecting one or more desired wood fibers, providing a resinous binder solution, and immersing the wood fibers within the resinous binder solution for a duration that saturates and covers the wood fibers with the resinous binder solution to form a drum shell liquid composition. The drum shell liquid composition is deposited into a mold, and then cured to form a monolithic composite drum shell. The monolithic composite drum shell is removed from the mold to provide a ready-to-use drum shell for assembling into a musical instrument.

The invention relates to a method for producing OSB wood material panels, in particular OSB wood material panels having reduced emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including the following steps: a) producing wood strands from suitable woods; b) torrefying at least some of the wood strands; c) glue-coating the torrefied wood strands and non-torrefied wood strands with at least one binder; d) scattering the glue-coated wood strands onto a conveyor belt; and e) pressing the glue-coated wood strands to form a wood material panel. The invention further relates to an OSB wood material panel that can be produced in accordance with said method and to the use of torrefied wood strands to reduce the emission of VOCs from OSB wood material panels.

A COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND COMPOSITE PRODUCT

The present invention is directed to a composite material comprising a cellulosic material, high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and styrene maleic anhydride (SMA). The cellulosic material may be thermally modified prior to being incorporated into the composite material. The present invention is also directed to a composite product that comprises the composite material according to the invention.

METHOD FOR CONTINUOUS ACETYLATION OF WOOD ELEMENTS

The disclosure relates to a method for continuous acetylation of wood elements. The acetylation is conducted with an acetylation medium at a pressure of at least 1.5 barg in a substantially oxygen free environment. Alternatively, the method includes the steps of: (a) feeding wood elements in a substantially oxygen free environment to a continuous acetylation reactor, and (b) treating the wood elements with an acetylation medium in the continuous acetylation reactor under wood acetylation reaction conditions, at a pressure of at least 1.5 barg. The process can acetylate wood elements to a high acetyl content in an efficient way, without compromising on the quality of the material. The acetylated wood elements can be used in the production of medium density fibreboards with superior qualities such as dimensional stability and durability.

Methods of conferring fire retardancy to wood and fire-retardant wood products

A process is provided for treating wood products including lumber, plywood and other engineered wood products comprising the steps of applying an aqueous fire-retardant impregnate and applying a coating to the surface of the wood product. In one embodiment, said process confers fire-retardant properties to the wood products sufficient to pass the extended burn test of ASTM E-84. The present invention also provides fire retardant wood products.
