A process is provided for treating wood products including lumber, plywood and other engineered wood products comprising the steps of applying an aqueous fire-retardant impregnate and applying a coating to the surface of the wood product. In one embodiment, said process confers fire-retardant properties to the wood products sufficient to pass the extended burn test of ASTM E-84. The present invention also provides fire retardant wood products.

The wood preservative composition comprises at least 0.5% by weight of DCOI based on the total weight of the composition and a retaining additive comprising a solvent-borne polymeric resin, a wax, or a combination thereof. A weight ratio of the DCOI to the retaining additive in the composition is in a range of 1:5 to 5:1.
Green process for modifying wood
This invention relates to a process for modifying wood. The process comprises treating the wood with an impregnating solution comprising an alkali metal (or alkaline earth metal) silicate, under conditions sufficient to impregnate the wood with one or more of the components of the impregnating solution. The process can comprise an optional second impregnation with a second impregnating solution. The process also comprises adding gaseous carbon dioxide to the treated wood, in the absence or presence of water, under pressure ranging from about 2 to about 12 bars, thereby lowering the pH of the treated wood to about 11 or below, to stabilize and/or fix the components of the impregnating solution in the wood. The process is green, non-toxic, and the resulting modified wood or wood product can be used across all primary construction and infrastructure applications.

Disclosed are a bamboo with single-sided densification on a bamboo inner layer, and a preparation method and use thereof. The method includes: placing the bamboo inner layer of the bamboo in an impregnation solution, and conducting an impregnation treatment to obtain an impregnated bamboo, wherein the impregnation solution includes water or a flame retardant solution; subjecting a resulting bamboo inner layer of the impregnated bamboo to a preheating and softening treatment to obtain a preheated and softened bamboo; maintaining a temperature for the preheating and softening treatment, while subjecting the preheated and softened bamboo to pressurization and compression to densify the bamboo to a target thickness, to obtain a compressed bamboo; and simultaneously subjecting a resulting bamboo inner layer and a bamboo outer layer of the compressed bamboo to a hot pressing and shaping treatment, and subjecting a resulting bamboo to cooling and depressurizing in sequence.
