Wood-Treatment Apparatus with a Displaceable Sleeve for Treating Wood, and Method for Treating Wood
The present invention provides a wood-treatment apparatus (1) for the long-term treatment of wood, and also a method for treating wood using the apparatus (1). The wood-treatment apparatus (1) is formed from a cylindrical hollow body (2) and a sleeve (10). The cylindrical hollow body (2) here has an inner end, which during use ends up located within the wood, an outer end, which is directed away from the inner end, at least one exit opening (4) and an accommodating space (20), which is designed for accommodating a carrier material (20) containing active wood-treatment substance. The sleeve (10) is arranged in abutment around the cylindrical hollow body (2). The sleeve (10), when the wood-treatment apparatus (1) is not in use, closes the at least one exit opening (4) and, when the wood-treatment apparatus (1) is being used, frees the at least one exit opening (4) and brings the accommodating space (20) into contact with the wood.
AUTOMATED FACTORY SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING CLASS-A FIRE-PROTECTED PREFABRICATED MASS TIMBER AND WOOD-FRAMED BUILDING COMPONENTS USING CLEAN FIRE INHIBITING CHEMICAL (CFIC) LIQUID SPRAYING ROBOTS AND MACHINE VISION SYSTEMS
Prefabricated Class-A fire-protected mass timber building components are first sprayed or curtain-coated with clean fire inhibiting chemical (CFIC) liquid, in an automated prefabricated wood building factory environment, to provide Class-A fire-protection under the ASTM 84E test standard. Thereafter, the prefabricated Class-A fire-protected mass timber building components are sprayed or coated again with a different chemical liquid so as to provide added UV-light, moisture and termite protection to the Class-A fire-protected CLT building components. Preferably, a multi-axis robotic spray system is used for spraying CFIC liquid over all of the surfaces of the prefabricated mass timber. Machine vision systems can be used to collect video data of the spraying operations, analyzing the collected video data against preconstructed reference models, and providing guidance as required to achieve predetermined standards of quality control (QC) along the production line.
Zinc and Boron Containing Enhanced Wood Preservative
A wood preservative composition and a method of manufacturing a wood preservative composition that includes a copper containing biocide, a zinc containing biocide, a boron containing biocide, and an azole are provided. The wood preservative composition exhibits improved biocidal efficacy against copper tolerant fungi.
METHODS FOR IMPROVED COPPER PENETRATION IN WOOD
The present invention is directed to amine soluble, or solid copper triazole based wood preservative formulations containing certain types of quaternary ammonium compounds, or nonionic sufactants, and the use of these quaternary ammonium compound-, or nonionic surfactant-containing formulations to pressure treat and preserve wood. The addition of the quaternary ammonium compounds, or nonionic surfactants to the wood preservation treatment solutions allows improved penetration of the copper from the solution into wood and reduces the duration of time required to effectively pressure treat the wood with the preservation composition.
INTEGRATED REED PROTECTION AND STORAGE METHODS AND SYSTEMS
An integrated reed protection and storage system is provided. The system includes a controlled solution container. The system also includes a sponge material positionable within the container. Further, the system includes at least one reed holder positionable around the sponge material. Additionally, the system includes at least one reed, the at least one reed positionable on the at least one reed holder. The at least one reed is configured to contact a surface of the sponge material.
SOLVENT-BORNE WOOD PRESERVATIVE COMPOSITIONS
Wood preservative compositions comprising a particulate copper compound in a solvent carrier with low aromatic content. Particulate copper dispersions in this composition demonstrated superior stability, and wood treated with the composition is protected from attack by wood decay fungi and termites. The invention is also directed to wood preservative compositions comprising: (a.) a biodegradable organic solvent carrier selected from the group consisting of vegetable oil, renewable resource oil, and biodiesel; (b.) a dispersion of solid particles of a metal compound having a particle size between about 0.005 microns to about 10 microns; (c.) an organic biocide; and (d.) a dispersant; ratio of the dispersant to the metal compound is from about 1:500 to about 100:1 (wt/wt). The invention is also directed to compositions comprising penflufen and solvent carriers. The invention is also directed to methods of treating wood using the compositions, and wood treated with the disclosed compositions and methods.
PROTECTIVE HEMP OIL FOR WOOD TREATMENT METHOD
A protectant and sealant solution and method of use thereof, configured to protect wood from premature decay when disposed in contact with the earth. The solution is composed of processed hemp oil which is mixed with bio-diesel and other oils to form the protectant solution. The wood is then impregnated with the solution via pressure treatment within a retort cylinder. The solution is configured to protect utility poles and other wooden construction members which are known for prolonged contact with soil. The solution is designed as a safe replacement for pentachlorophenol solutions which have been found to be harmful to the soil and water table.
Production of Silicate Solutions and their Use in Mold and Mildew Remediation
An aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO4.sup.4?]+nX.sup.1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium; and wherein n is four to five times greater than m. The aqueous orthosilicate solution is made by adding silicon particles of less than about 3 cm and water to a pressure vessel followed by adding a molar excess of alkali caustic to the pressure vessel containing the silicon particles. The temperature in the vessel is maintained not to exceed about 190? F. while an aqueous orthosilicate solution is formed. Upon cooling the formed aqueous orthosilicate solution is recovery. Aluminum or CuO can be added during the initial heating.
