Protective hemp oil for wood treatment method
A protectant and sealant solution and method of use thereof, configured to protect wood from premature decay when disposed in contact with the earth. The solution is composed of processed hemp oil which is mixed with bio-diesel and other oils to form the protectant solution. The wood is then impregnated with the solution via pressure treatment within a retort cylinder. The solution is configured to protect utility poles and other wooden construction members which are known for prolonged contact with soil. The solution is designed as a safe replacement for pentachlorophenol solutions which have been found to be harmful to the soil and water table.
Wood treatment for dimensional stabilization
A process is provided for treating wood products including lumber, plywood and other engineered wood products comprising the steps of contacting a composition comprising a polypropylene glycol, a high molecular weight polyethylene glycol, a polyether polyol having low solubility in water, or a polytetrahydrofuran, or hydrophobic polyether polyol, with the wood product. The invention also provides wood products comprising a polypropylene glycol, a high molecular weight polyethylene glycol, a polyether polyol having low solubility in water, or a polytetrahydrofuran, or hydrophobic polyether polyol, that have greater dimensional stability compared to an untreated wood product.
Wood products with enhanced resistance to graying and water infiltration and related technology
A composite wood product in accordance with a particular embodiment of the present technology includes a composite substrate and a sealant disposed within a surface portion of the substrate. The substrate includes wood and a binder. The sealant includes photoresponsive molecules present within the surface portion of the substrate at an average concentration greater than 1000 parts per million. In response to a 120-day exposure at 7 inches separation distance to a UV lamp with a UVA (315-400 nm) output of 13.6 W and a UVB (280-315 nm) output of 3.0 W, a CIELab b* value of the substrate decreases by a first amount, a CIELab b* value of the sealant increases by a second amount, and a CIELab b* value of the overall wood product decreases by an amount less than the first amount, increases by an amount less than the second amount, or is unchanged.
ADDITIVES FOR LIGNOCELLULOSIC COMPOSITES
An additive formulation for lignocellulosic composites comprising a) a first aqueous emulsion comprising i) a component selected from the group consisting of petroleum wax, a triglyceride, and combinations thereof; and ii) a first anionic emulsifier; and b) a second aqueous emulsion comprising: i) a reaction product of I) a derivative of a polyol selected from the group consisting of saccharides, sugar alcohols, sugar acids, gluconic acids, and gluconic acid lactones; and II) a polyisocyanate; and ii) an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of a second anionic emulsifier, a non-ionic emulsifier, and mixtures thereof, is disclosed.
Weatherproof aqueous wood coatings
An aqueous based coating composition comprising a fatty amine quaternary having the structure of formula (I): R.sup.1R.sup.2R.sup.3R.sup.4N.sup.+X.sup. wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are independently selected from saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aralkyl, or alkenyl groups comprising from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, whereby at least one of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 is a C12-C30 group, and X.sup. is an anion from an inorganic or organic acid, is provided. The fatty amine quaternary may contain ethoxy and/or propoxy groups. One or more of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 may be substituted and contain one or more hydroxyl substituents or ether linkages. Methods for imparting water resistance to a wood substrate having up to 100% moisture by applying a coating composition having the fatty amine quaternary of formula (I), and for preparing an aqueous coating composition comprising the fatty amine quaternary of formula (I) are provided. Also provided is a coated water resistant wood substrate comprising the fatty amine quaternary of formula (I).
Process for treating wood
A cellulosic material is treated by providing a cellulosic material such as wood or a wood composite, which is impregnated with an aqueous dispersion comprising a polymer, the polymer comprising an olefin-carboxylic acid copolymer. The cellulosic material is then impregnated with a modifying agent, the modifying agent comprising a polyamine having greater than or equal to 2 amine groups. The modifying agent at least partially crosslinks the polymer within the cellulosic material.
Method for treating a wood board
The invention relates to a method for treating a wood board. According to the invention, a composition containing a hydrophobic agent is provided onto the surface of the wood board and coating agent is provided over it to form a coating layer.
