Apparatus and method for separating fibers in wood logs
An apparatus for pre-processing logs to separate outer jacket fibers, comprising a plurality of spaced apart rollers through which a log can pass, each roller having at least one outwardly extending concentric projection, the projection being suitable to separate fibers. A pressure mechanism determines the diameter of the log so that the rollers can provide the appropriate amount of pressure to and engagement of the projections with the log. A feeding mechanism moves the log along a flow path past the rollers.

FEED ROLLS HAVING FLUTE ASSEMBLIES OF MATINGLY ENGAGEABLE MOUNTS AND FLUTE INSERT ELEMENTS
A feed roll comprises a roll having a rotary axis, flutes fixed on the roll, mounts fixed on the roll between the flutes, each mount having a seat spaced apart from the outer surface of the roll and replaceable flute elements detachably and matingly engaged in the seats of respective mounts and extending outward beyond the mounts. The replaceable flute insert element comprises an elongated plate body having an inner longitudinal edge, an outer longitudinal edge, and a backing face extending between the inner longitudinal edge and the outer longitudinal edge and the inner longitudinal edge and the backing face configured to matingly engage the seat of the mount. The flue insert element further comprises the outer longitudinal edge being formed with a traction element and the plate body having a plurality of bolt holes therethrough for registering with the bolt holes of the mount element when the plate body and the seat are matingly engaged.
Debarking Chain Having Bent Links
A debarking chain having bent links; the bent links being bent either right or left, from end to end at a bend angle of from about 5 to about 90 degrees to provide a flail type debarking chain having protruding edges or corners that increase the efficiency in which bark is removed from logs during debarking operations. Bent link chains include right bent links that are bent to the right proximate the middle of the link, where the weld is preferably located, when the link is viewed from the side with the weld on the far side and left bent links that are bent to the left proximate the middle of the link, where the weld is preferably located, when the link is viewed from the side with the weld on the far side. Disclosed inventions also include a debarking drum having a plurality of debarking chains having at least two bent links, as well as debarking devices having such a debarking drum and methods of making and using the same. The debarking device preferably includes a chipping device and methods of using the same in conjunction with using such bent link debarking chain.

Disclosed herein are embodiments of batch-style bottom-discharge rotary debarkers for removing bark from a batch of logs in a bin and discharging debarked logs from a bottom of the bin. In some embodiments, the bin includes four walls and an opening in its bottom. In some embodiments, the debarkers include a plurality of rotors, a plurality of chutes, and a plurality of conveyor belt systems for carrying bark and logs away from the bin. In some embodiments, the debarkers include an internal gate which can be moved between a debarking configuration and an unloading configuration.

An elongate mount couples an insert to a feed roll via a proximal edge thereof. The proximal edge of the elongate mount faces both outwards in part and forwards in part. The elongate mount has a recessed region that is twisted in part. The insert is shaped to be received at least in part within and matingly engage with the elongate mount via the recessed region. The elongate mount is shaped to enclose the proximal edge, spaced-apart ends and backing fact of the insert.

The bottom part comprises rotors being drivable by a power source. The rotors comprise a plurality of debarking plates. The debarking plates comprise an abrasive surface. The rotary log debarker is characterized in that it is provided with a tilting system for adjustable tilting of the container about a pivot point.
