Veneer feeder head
A veneer feeder head used to peel a veneer sheet from a stack of veneer. A stationary head and an actuating head both contact the top veneer sheet and the actuating head moves into a peel state, where the one portion of the top veneer sheet is raised higher than another portion of the top veneer sheet. This peeling action separates the top veneer sheet from the next veneer sheet in the stack of veneer.

Long Cutting Knife
A long cutting knife is used to cut wood along an outer surface of the wood to obtain a veneer. The long cutting knife includes a blade metal including a cutting edge at a tip end and a flank face adjacent a rear face. The long cutting knife further includes a base metal to which the rear face of the blade metal is joined. The base metal is a steel material or a quenched steel material. For the steel material of the base metal, the yield point before quenching is greater than or equal to 305 N/mm.sup.2, the yield point after quenching is greater than or equal to 390 N/mm.sup.2, and/or the carbon content is greater than or equal to 0.32%.

Knife carriage, a rotary veneer lathe having the same, and a veneer slicer having the same
A nosebar is supported by supports arranged along the longitudinal direction, and the supports are assembled to fixtures to swing independently of each other in a direction away from a log according to the reaction force of the pressing force acting on the supports. Thus, when a knife peels a knot part of the log or a fragment of the log enters a cutting edge, the portion of the nosebar pressing the knot part or corresponding to the location where the fragment enters the cutting edge is greatly deformed, while the deformation of the nosebar in the other portions is kept small. A corner of the nosebar is prevented from contacting the peeled portion of the raw wood and generating a gap when the nosebar is bent and deformed.

KNIFE ASSEMBLY
A knife assembly for use in a veneer cutting machine such as a rotary veneer lathe and a veneer slicer includes a knife blade, a knife blade holder and a knife adjusting bolt with a lock nut. The knife blade holder includes a holder block having formed therethrough a threaded hole through which the knife adjusting bolt is adjustably inserted. The holder block has a first support surface that is in supporting contact with a part of one surface of the knife blade on the side thereof where a bevel face of the knife blade is formed and a second support surface that is in supporting contact with a part of a base end surface located opposite from and extending parallel to a cutting edge of the knife blade.

Crossclipping and bundling system and method for veneer packets
An apparatus for clipping ends of a book of sheets includes a first detector for detecting a first end of the book of sheets, a clipper positioning system and a first clipper including a knife. The clipper positioning system is adapted to automatically position the first clipper to a proposed first clipping position based on the detected first end of the book of sheets. A method of processing a plurality of sheets includes assembling the plurality of sheets into a book of sheets, detecting a first end of the book of sheets to propose a first position for clipping the book of sheets, positioning a first clipper based on the detected first end of the book of sheets, advancing the book of sheets to an infeed conveyor, detecting, the presence of the book of sheets in the infeed conveyor, advancing the book of sheets to the first clipper, clipping the first end of the book of sheets, and advancing the book of sheets from the first clipper.
Veneer Peeling Apparatus
A veneer peeling apparatus includes a bearing frame (10) for rotatably supporting a round wood (20), a peeling blade (24) which can be placed against the periphery of the round wood, and at least one milling head (40) for scarfing at least one edge of the veneer, wherein the milling head (40) includes a groove milling cutter (44) for trimming the veneer.
