MICROSTRAND INTERFACE LAYER FOR IMPROVED ENGINEERED WOOD PRODUCTS
20230143301 · 2023-05-11 ·

An engineered wood based siding, cladding or panel with a microstrand interface layer (MIL) applied to the top of the main strand matrix layers to minimize telegraphing, add rigidity and strength, and provide an improved surface appearance. The MIL comprises microstrands applied to the surface of the strand matrix or mat during production, prior to deposition of a fines layer. The MIL prevents the loss of fines into the strand matrix, and helps prevent or eliminate strand telegraphing.

Process for producing smooth strand-based siding or structural panels using secondary pressing
11639011 · 2023-05-02 · ·

A process for producing a smooth-sided strand-based siding or wood structural panel using a secondary pressing process. The secondary pressing process is performed after the primary process completes pressing and consolidation of the substrate/board. The secondary process applies and cures the overlay after applying a water spray on the hot board immediately out of the primary process press, and before overlay application. The application of the water spray causes the surface of the board to swell and cure. A settling period follows to allow the top surface particles and strands to swell along with absorption and evaporation of the moisture. This is followed by surface sanding to remove the telegraphing and produce a smooth surface, which is then followed by lamination of the overlay(s). The process is completed by post-lamination treatment and coating of the board.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING MATERIAL BOARDS IN A PRODUCTION PLANT, PRODUCTION PLANT, COMPUTER-PROGRAM PRODUCT AND USE OF A COMPUTER-PROGRAM PRODUCT

A method for producing material boards in a production plant in which apparatuses form a material into a mat that is pressed to obtain the material board which has specific quality parameters. The production plant and/or the apparatuses are controlled in an open- or closed-loop manner by a controller, which preferably includes a programmable logic controller, and input parameters are received, processed and/or output by the controller. The input parameters are formed at least from settable product parameters for the material board to be produced, from settable and/or recorded plant parameters of the production plant and/or the apparatuses and/or from recorded material parameters. A quality value of at least one quality parameter of the material board to be produced is determined based on the input parameters by an algorithm based on artificial intelligence. The algorithm is trained or formed by a database which has at least one quality parameter and input parameters correlating with the quality parameter.

FIRE-RATED STRUCTURAL OSB PANELS WITH OVERLAID WATER-RESISTANT BARRIER
20230203811 · 2023-06-29 ·

A wood or engineered wood structural panel, such as, but not limited to, OSB (“oriented strand board”) or plywood, that is both fire-resistant and water resistant. The panel is factory-coated with a product that provides fire resistance. The treatment gives it a Fire-Resistant (FR) performance (for use in a one- or two-hour rated assembly). The panel also is overlaid or coated in a factory setting with a weather/water resistive barrier (WRB). The structural panel thus combines a fire-resistant structural sheathing and WRB product in one integrated panel produced at a factory prior for installation at a job site.
