METHOD OF FABRIC PROCESSING FOR IMPROVED CMC INFILTRATION
A method of preparing a woven fabric material for use in a ceramic matrix composite includes securing a woven fabric tape in tension across a roller, the roller having an outer surface with a plurality of spiked protrusions extending radially therefrom, each of the plurality of spiked protrusions having a diameter between 10 microns and 500 microns. The method further includes passing the woven fabric along the roller, such that the roller rotates with the passing of the woven fabric tape, thereby impinging the spiked protrusions into the woven fabric tape, and separating filaments within tows of the woven fabric tape by penetration of at least one of the spiked protrusions into the woven fabric tape, such that filaments within various tows of the woven fabric tape are pushed apart to form a separated woven fabric tape with a greater number of tows per unit area than the woven fabric tape.
REINFORCED ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS
An additive manufacturing process for the manufacture of a body from composite materials, including the steps of: providing a support structure against which the composite material is to be formed; installing a reinforcing material adjacent the support structure; and progressively applying a matrix material to the support structure to cover the reinforcing material, the matrix material being applied from a nozzle movable relative to the support structure.
Cooling holes manufactured with EBC in place
A method for forming a hole in a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component may be provided. A sacrificial fiber having an environmental barrier coating on an outer surface thereof may be inserted into a porous ceramic preform that includes ceramic fibers. The ceramic preform may be formed into a ceramic matrix composite body. The sacrificial fiber may be removed from the ceramic matrix composite body, the environmental barrier coating of the sacrificial fiber defining an opening in the ceramic matrix composite body. A ceramic matrix composite component may be provided. The ceramic matrix composite component may include an environmental barrier coating of a sacrificial fiber, where the environmental barrier coating forms a lining of a hole passing partly or entirely through a thickness of the ceramic matrix composite body.
Plastic Coated Composite Building Boards and Method of Making Same
Disclosed are composite building boards and associated manufacturing methods. The composite boards may include, for example, one or more slurry layers with embedded fibrous mats. An exterior plastic coating is mechanically adhered to the underlying slurry layer. The plastic layer chemically bonds and cross-links with polymer additives within the slurry layer. The result is an integrated polymer matrix with greatly improved durability and surface strength.
Pre-form ceramic matrix composite cavity and a ceramic matrix composite component
A pre-form CMC cavity and method of forming pre-form CMC cavity for a ceramic matrix component includes providing a mandrel, applying a base ply to the mandrel, laying-up at least one CMC ply on the base ply, removing the mandrel, and densifying the base ply and the at least one CMC ply. The remaining densified base ply and at least one CMC ply form a ceramic matrix component having a desired geometry and a cavity formed therein. Also provided is a method of forming a CMC component.
A METHOD OF IMPREGNATING A FIBER TEXTURE OF HOLLOW SHAPE
A method of impregnating a fiber texture of hollow shape, the method including introducing a first suspension containing a first powder of solid particles of ceramic or carbon material into an inside volume defined by an inside face of a fiber texture of hollow shape placed in a mold, an outer face of the fiber texture being presented facing a wall of the mold; and using the action of centrifugal force to impregnate the fiber texture with the first suspension by causing the mold to rotate and varying the speed of rotation of the mold during the impregnation of the texture with the first suspension.
EROSION CONTROL MAT SYSTEM
A concrete mat apparatus, includes a plurality of elongated concrete members, each member being aligned with and next to another concrete member. Each of the concrete members has an upper generally flat surface, a lower generally flat surface, and a plurality of inclined surfaces that each extend away from an upper or lower surface. Reinforcement extends from a first end portion of each concrete member to a second end portion thereof, the reinforcement including a plurality of longitudinally extending reinforcement bars and a plurality of encircling tie bars at spaced apart intervals. Cabling connects each of the elongated concrete members to another of the elongated concrete members. The combination of elongated concrete members has a width and a length that is at least twice as long as the width. The upper inclined surfaces of one of the elongated concrete members forms a plane with the lower inclined surface of an adjacent elongated concrete member. A plurality of loops are provided along opposed edges of the mat, each loop formed by a portion of the cabling. The loops can be spaced between about one and three feet (30.5 and 91.4 cm) apart.
Method and device for producing a reinforced concrete component, and concrete component
A method and an apparatus for producing a concrete component, comprising concrete and a textile reinforcement composed of a reinforcement fiber strand (28), wherein first a yarn (20) is saturated with a mineral suspension (35) and forms the at least one reinforcement fiber strand (28). According to the invention, the reinforcement fiber strand (28) is fed by means of a moving device, so that the reinforcement fiber strand (28) is placed in a concrete strand (4), placed on a concrete layer (2), or placed on a vertical side surface of a plurality of concrete layers placed on top of each other, so that a perpendicular reinforcement is produced when arranged on the outside, and wherein the reinforcement fiber strand (28) is further enclosed by the concrete immediately upon placement or subsequently before the mineral suspension (35) has cured. The invention also relates to a reinforced concrete component (1).
