Process for manufacturing a ceramic composite material part by pressurized injection of a loaded slurry into a porous mould

A method of fabricating a composite material part includes injecting under pressure a slurry containing a powder of refractory ceramic particles into a fiber texture; and draining the liquid of the slurry that has passed through the fiber texture, while retaining the powder of refractory ceramic particles within the texture to obtain a fiber preform filled with refractory ceramic particles. The injection tooling includes a porous material mold including an internal housing in which the fiber texture is placed, the slurry being injected into the fiber texture via an injection port in the injection tooling and leading into the internal housing of the mold. The tooling includes a rigid material enclosure in which the porous material mold is held while the slurry is injected under pressure and while the liquid of the slurry is drained, the liquid of the slurry being discharged via a vent present in the enclosure.

CMC component cooling cavities

A component for a gas turbine engine including a core and an outer enclosure. The core includes an exterior surface extending along a length between a first end and a second end and at least partially defines a cooling cavity on the exterior surface extending from the first end along at least a portion of the length. The cooling cavity is fluidly coupled to an air supply at the first end. The outer enclosure includes an outer surface. The outer enclosure is positioned outside the core and extends from the first end of the core along at least a portion of the length of the core and at least partially defines the cooling cavity.

COMPOSITE ARCHITECTURAL ULTRA-HIGH PERFORMANCE PORCELAIN CONCRETE (CA-UHPPC) PANELS AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME
20210070658 · 2021-03-11 · ·

A composite ultra-high performance porcelain concrete includes cement in an amount between 500 and 680 kg/m.sup.3; and porcelain sand in an amount between 500 and 1200 kg/m.sup.3. The porcelain sand replaces a portion of cement which would normally be needed, thereby reducing environmental impact of the cement, and also creating a beneficial use for waste porcelain source material. The disclosure also relates to a method for producing thin-walled composites CA-UHPPC facade panels and elements for building envelopes.

Electrostatic filament dispersal for CMC

A method of preparing a woven fabric material for use in a ceramic matrix composite includes passing a desized woven fabric tape having a first inter-filament spacing through a dispersal module configured to transform the desized woven fabric tape into a dispersed woven fabric tape having a second inter-filament spacing greater than the first inter-filament spacing. The dispersal module includes a first charging element with a charged surface and disposed to apply an electric charge to the desized woven fabric tape. The method further includes applying a polymer binder to the dispersed woven fabric tape to create a stabilized woven fabric tape having the second inter-filament spacing.

Impregnated Cloth

A knitted spacer fabric has a tightly knitted bottom layer, a more loosely knitted upper layer and linking fibres extending across the space between the lower and upper faces. Settable material, e.g. cement, is introduced into the space between the upper and lower faces and can be caused to set by the addition of a liquid, e.g. water. Until set, the fabric is flexible and can be shaped but after the material in space has set, the fabric is rigid and can be used as a structural element in a wide range of situations. The bottom layer has an extension that extends beyond the upper face and is connected to the upper face by elastic connecting fibres that draw the extension towards the other face, thereby at least partly closing the space at the edge of the cloth and preventing the settable material from spilling out. In addition, the packing of the settable material and maximum space between the faces are such that only a predetermined amount of liquid can be accommodated within the space and that amount is matched to the water required to set the cement.

VACUUM INFILTRATION SYSTEM FOR CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES

A method for infiltrating a porous preform for a gas turbine engine is provided, which comprises providing a chamber for infiltrating a porous preform. The porous preform is positioned within a slurry confinement fixture within the chamber. A vacuum is created in the chamber. A solvent is added to the slurry confinement fixture until a pressure in the chamber is substantially equal to an equilibrium partial pressure of the solvent. A slurry is added to the slurry confinement fixture. The slurry includes the solvent and a particulate. The pressure in the chamber is increased, and the slurry is urged into the porous preform.

One method may include positioning the porous CMC preform in an opening of a die set for an infiltration system, and flowing a molten densifier over the porous CMC preform in a first flow direction to infiltrate a plurality of voids formed between each of a plurality of ply stacks of the CMC preform. The method may also include flowing the molten densifier over the porous CMC preform in a second flow direction, distinct from the first flow direction, to infiltrate the plurality of voids formed between each of the plurality of ply stacks of the CMC preform. The second flow direction may be substantially parallel to a predetermined, unidirectional material orientation of at least one ply stack of the plurality of ply stacks of the CMC preform.
