Injection Stretch Blow-Molding (ISBM) Enhancement for Semi-Crystalline Polyolefin Containers Utilizing Alicyclic Polyolefins
An injection stretch blow-molded (ISBM) container prepared by way of injection molding a tubular preform followed by reheating and concurrently stretching and blow-molding the heated preform into the container. The container and preform comprise from 70 wt. % to 97.5 wt. % of a semi-crystalline polyolefin composition comprising one or polymers selected from polyethylene polymers and polypropylene polymers and from 2.5 wt. % to 30 wt. % of an alicyclic polyolefin composition, wherein the alicyclic polyolefin composition has a glass transition temperature, Tg, of from 60° to 145° C.
CONTAINER AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
A method for manufacturing a container includes injecting a first material into a first mold to form a top portion of a preform. The first material and a second material are injected into the first mold to form a bottom portion of the preform. The preform is disposed in a second mold. The preform is blow molded into a finished container.
Biocompatible low impact CO.SUB.2 .emission polymer compositions, pharmaceutical articles and methods of preparing same
A biobased polymer composition for pharmaceutical articles includes a low density polyethylene, in which at least a portion of ethylene is obtained from a renewable source of carbon. The biobased polymer composition exhibits an Emission Factor ranging from −3.5 to 0 kg CO2.sub.e/kg of the biobased polymer composition, and is biocompatible for use in pharmaceutical packaging. A pharmaceutical article includes the biobased polymer composition and has a volume ranging from 0.04 ml to 10000 ml. A method for forming a pharmaceutical article includes extruding the biobased polymer composition at a temperature ranging from 100 to 250° C. and at a screw speed ranging from 20 to 100 rpm. A method for producing a biobased polymer composition includes polymerizing ethylene at least partially obtained from a renewable source of carbon to form a low density polyethylene.
SOLVENT-FREE MELT POLYCONDENSATION PROCESS OF MAKING FURAN BASED POLYAMIDES
Disclosed herein are processes of making furan-based polyamides using solvent-free melt condensation of a diamine and an ester derivative of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid with a C.sub.2 to C.sub.12 aliphatic diol or a polyol. The processes comprise a) forming a reaction mixture by mixing one or more diamines, a diester comprising an ester derivative of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid with a C.sub.2 to C.sub.12 aliphatic diol or a polyol, and a catalyst, such that the diamine is present in an excess amount of at least 1 mol % with respect to the diester amount; and b) melt polycondensing the reaction mixture in the absence of a solvent at a temperature in the range of 60° C. to a maximum temperature of 250° C. under an inert atmosphere, while removing alkyl alcohol to form a furan-based polyamide, wherein the one or more diamines comprises an aliphatic diamine, an aromatic diamine, or an alkylaromatic diamine.
HIGH STRENGTH BLOW-MOLDED STRUCTURE
A blow-molded plastic frame of a portable collapsible sign includes a first outer portion, a second outer portion spaced apart from the first outer portion, and a pattern of structural stiffening features formed in the first and second outer portions. The pattern comprises rows and columns of first depressions extending from the first outer portion into a hollow interior portion between the first and second outer portions, and rows and columns of second depressions extending from the second outer portion into the hollow interior portion. Each first depression has a first floor comprising three first arms having rotational symmetry. Each first arm is rotated from another first arm by 120 degrees. Each second depression has a second floor comprising three second arms having rotational symmetry. Each second arm is rotated from another second arm by 120 degrees. The first floor of each first depression is aligned with the second floor of an adjacent second depression.
Multilayer plastic bottles with mineral filler and foamed layer for improved recyclability
Plastic containers exhibiting reduced plastic resin usage, while maintaining a specific gravity of below 1.0, so as to allow their quick and easy separation using floatation techniques during recycling. Within a layer or portion some of the plastic resin of the container body may be replaced with an inorganic mineral filler material, while within another layer or portion of the plastic container, the plastic material (e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene) may be foamed. The fraction of mineral filler material that may be included within the polyethylene may thus be increased beyond that previously possible while maintaining the specific gravity below 1.0, by also foaming a layer or portion of the polymeric material, so as to create voids therein. This allows significantly less resin material to be employed, while maintaining strength characteristics of the plastic container so as to be at least comparable to existing plastic containers not including such mineral filler materials.
