The second part of the mold comprises an added-on hollow shaping part, that is arranged so that it is located, when the mold is closed, directly facing the specific limited area of the working surface of the first part of the mold. The secondary means of suction can be controlled independently of the main means of suction.

The downstream sheet manipulator is carried by the at least one frame and is configured to transport the leading edge and the sufficiently formed articles and sheet for delivery in sequential shots from downstream an article forming station to upstream an article trim station. Each protrusion has an apex, an opening at the apex, and an elliptical cross-section parallel to the planar surface of the web. The elliptical cross-section has a protrusion axis ratio that may be selected so as to produce a desired protrusion axis ratio.

The method further includes deforming the first sheet against the mold so as to obtain, on the first sheet, second concavities that substantially correspond to the first concavities of the mold. Then, each second concavity of the first sheet is filled with down, and a second sheet is anchored to the first sheet. The semi-finished product is removed from the mold.
