Electric field “Z” direction alignment of nanoparticles in polymer solutions

A method of preparing a polymer film having an oriented dispersed material includes casting a multi-layer polymer solution having a first polymer solution layer and a second polymer solution layer where the second polymer solution layer is at least partially immiscible with the first polymer solution layer. The method further includes passing the multi-layer polymer solution through an electric field application zone, to thereby induce orientation of the dispersed material. A multi-layer polymer film can then be formed by drying the solvent from the multi-layer polymer solution. An apparatus for preparing polymer films includes a top electrode made from a flexible metal mesh coated with a non-stick, non-conductive coating.

The invention relates to a method for producing a nonwoven fabric from fibres, wherein the fibres are spun by means of at least one spinneret, are cooled and then deposited on a collection device to form a nonwoven web. The nonwoven web undergoes hot fluid bonding during at least two consecutive bonding steps. In a first bonding step, the surface of the nonwoven web is subjected to a hot fluid and, in a second bonding step, the surface of the nonwoven web is also subsequently subjected to a hot fluid and, in addition and at the same time, surface pressure is exerted on the nonwoven web.

Disclosed is a method for preparation and activation of a super hydrophobic electret nanofibrous filter material for cleaning PM2.5, comprising the steps as follows: (1) dissolving polymer powders and resin into a corresponding solvent so as to prepare a polymer solution, then stirring on a magnetic stirrer and standing for use; (2) in order to reinforce the electrostatic effect of the fiber, before preparing the polymer solution, adding in organic electret nanoparticles into the solvent, then oscillating with an ultrasonic oscillator; (3) in order to reinforce the super hydrophobic effect of the filter, spraying a low surface energy solution on the prepared nanofiber with a designed nozzle to carry out modification.

Enhancing dielectric constants of elastomers using electric fields

An enhanced elastomer molding process applies an electric field to an elastomer doped to include dielectric ceramic particulates inserted in a cavity of a mold while maintaining a temperature at or near a melting point of the elastomer and a Curie temperature of the ceramic particulates. Because a material's dielectric constant is related to the material's net remnant ferroelectric polarization, which may be increased by poling near the material's Curie temperature, applying the electric field to the elastomer doped with the dielectric ceramic particulates increases the dielectric constant of the dielectric ceramic particulates. This maintains the high elasticity of the elastomer while increasing the elastomer's dielectric constant of the material by increasing the value of the dielectric constant of the dielectric ceramic particulates included in the elastomer.

DISENTANGLED PVDF FOR HIGH ELECTROMECHANICAL EFFICIENCY THIN FILMS AND FIBERS

A polymer article includes an at least partially disentangled polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) family member composition and is characterized by an elastic modulus of at least 4 GPa and an electromechanical coupling factor (k.sub.31) of at least 0.1 at room temperature. A method of manufacturing such a polymer article may include forming an at least partially disentangled polymer composition into a polymer thin film or fiber, applying a tensile stress to the polymer article in an amount effective to induce a stretch ratio of at least approximately 5 in the thin film or fiber, and applying an electric field across a thickness dimension of the polymer article. Annealing and poling steps may separately or simultaneously accompany and/or follow the act of stretching.
