Bonding objects together

A method of bonding a second object to a first object includes: providing the first object having a thermoplastic liquefiable material in a solid state; providing the second object having a surface portion that has a coupling structure with an undercut, so that the second object is capable of making a positive-fit connection with the first object; pressing the second object against the first object with a tool that is in physical contact with a coupling-in structure of the second object while mechanical vibrations are coupled into the tool; continuing to press and couple vibrations into the tool until a flow portion of the thermoplastic material of the first object is liquefied and flows into the coupling structures of the second object; and letting the thermoplastic material re-solidify to yield a positive-fit connection between the first and second objects by the re-solidified flow portion interpenetrating the coupling structures.

AN ARTIFICIAL TURF SYSTEM INCLUDING AN OLD TURF AS UNDERLAYER

In one embodiment, an artificial turf system includes an existing artificial turf, an elastic layer and a new artificial turf. The existing artificial turf includes a plurality of existing artificial turf fibres and existing infill granules. The existing infill granules lie between the existing artificial turf fibers and form an existing infill layer on top of a carrier structure. The elastic layer is formed by a hardened binder. At least a lower portion of the elastic layer overlaps with and penetrates at least an upper portion of the existing infill layer. The new artificial turf includes a plurality of new artificial turf fibres.

A composite structural member including at least one first flange element made from a first composite material, and at least one first web element made from a second composite material. The at least one first web element is connected to at least one first flange element in a non-coplanar manner along a corresponding mutual first edge via a first corner element made from a third composite material, the mutual first edge extending along a first direction. The third composite material includes a corresponding first plurality of third composite material first fibers and a corresponding second plurality of third composite material second fibers embedded in a corresponding third composite material matrix in a non-parallel orientation with respect to the third composite material first fibers, wherein the third composite material first fibers are nominally orthogonal to the mutual first edge or to the first direction.

System and method for perforating paint-roller cover fabric
10875233 · 2020-12-29 ·

In an embodiment, a paint roller manufacturing system and method uses a fabric-coating applicator to apply a fabric adhesive onto a portion of a perforated paint roller cover fabric material having a plurality of perforations through which adhesive may flow, and into the plurality of perforations and into interstitial spaces of the fabric material, to yield a length of coated fabric. An inner strip and an outer strip are wound about a mandrel in offset relation. A strip-coating applicator is used to apply a strip adhesive to the outer strip as it is wound about the mandrel. Simultaneously with the step of applying the strip adhesive to the outer strip, a portion of the coated paint roller fabric material is received at the outer strip and the length of coated fabric is wound about at least the outer strip to form a paint roller tube.

SKIN MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SKIN MATERIAL

To prevent fraying of fibers around a hole when the hole is formed in a skin material. A skin material (1) includes a base fabric layer (5) and a top layer (3) provided at a position opposite to the base fabric layer (5). Holes (3a, 5a) are formed in both the top layer (3) and the base fabric layer (5), and the base fabric layer (5) includes a base fabric layer bottom portion (5b) provided at a position farthest from the top layer (3) in a thickness direction. Fibers constituting the base fabric layer bottom portion (5b) are in a raised state, and each of the fibers is impregnated with resin.

ELECTROSPINNING DEVICE AND METHOD

A method of electrospinning (40) is provided, and an electrospinning device (1; 30). The method comprises (i) holding (41) a liquid comprising a polymer melt or a polymer solution in a container (2), (ii) letting out (42) a stream of the liquid from the container through at least one nozzle (3), (iii) creating (43) a voltage difference between the nozzle (3) and a collecting surface (4), (iv) collecting (44) electro spun material coming from the nozzle (3) so as to form a fibrous structure (8) on the collecting surface (4), and (v) directing (45) a laser beam (13) towards the collecting surface (4) so as to locally remove a part of the fibrous structure (8).

System and method for spin welding fittings to maple sap lines

A maple sap line system and method for spin welding provides secure, unobstructed lines for collecting sap by creating a hermetically sealed connection between a lateral line and a mainline. A fitting connects the mainline to the lateral line. The fitting is spin welded to the mainline at a contact interface. The fitting comprises a protruding member that easily melts to create the frictional weld. The fitting has an elongated body comprising barbs that receive the lateral line. The fitting has a channel that enables fluid communication between the mainline and the lateral line. The flanges in the fitting register with a chuck to rotate the fitting against the main line at a high rpm. Molten debris formed in the channel is dislodged by drilling with a collared drill. The drilling provides fluid communication and creates a smooth inner surface in the mainline, and cuts off flanges from the fitting.
