Methods for treating inner liner surface, inner liners resulting therefrom and tires containing such inner liners
Methods for treating the surface of a cured inner liner are disclosed. By use of these methods a treated, cured inner liner is produced which has a lower surface with increased adherability to other materials (e.g., adhesives). Treated, cured inner liners resulting from such methods as well as tires containing the treated inner liners.
TREAD EXTENSION DEVICE FOR USE IN RETREAD FINISHING
A tread extension device (10) is provided that has first (12) and second (14) tread extensions for holding a tread during brushing operations. A first connecting device (28) connects the first tread extension (12) to a first longitudinal end (18) of the tread, and engages both the first tread extension (12) and the first longitudinal end (18) of the tread. A second connecting device (30) is included that connects the second tread extension (14) to the second longitudinal end of the tread. The second connecting device (30) engages both the second tread extension and the second longitudinal end of the tread. The tread is able to be brushed in both a first direction and a second direction along its underside.
METHOD OF LASER CLEANING A TIRE INNER SURFACE, AND A TIRE
The present invention is directed to a method of cleaning an innermost surface of a pneumatic tire, the surface having a residue deposited thereon, comprising the steps of: activating a laser to generate laser radiation; directing a pulse of laser radiation to impinge on an area of the innermost surface, the pulse of radiation having a pulse width and a fluence sufficient to remove at least part of the residue in the area to form a cleaned area; repeating the step of directing the pulse of radiation sequentially over the innermost surface to form a sequence of cleaned areas, the sequence of cleaned areas defining a stripe, the stripe following a continuous nonlinear path extending at least one circumference about the inner surface, the stripe having a stripe width W2. The invention is further directed to a tire made by the method.
METHOD OF MAKING A SELF-SEALING TIRE, AND A TIRE
The present invention is directed to a method of making a self-sealing pneumatic tire, the tire having a tread width and a radially innermost surface having a residue deposited thereon, comprising the steps of: activating a laser to generate laser radiation; directing a pulse of laser radiation to impinge on an area of the innermost surface, the pulse of radiation having a pulse width and a fluence sufficient to remove at least part of the residue in the area to form a cleaned area; repeating the step of directing the pulse of radiation sequentially over the innermost surface to form a sequence of cleaned areas, the sequence of cleaned areas defining a stripe, the stripe following a continuous nonlinear path extending at least one circumference about the inner surface, the stripe having a stripe width W2; applying a bead of sealant in a continuous bead path extending at least one circumference about the inner surface, the bead of sealant at least partially overlaying the stripe. The invention is further directed to as such a self-sealing pneumatic tire.
Tire with thermoplastic innerliner
The present invention is directed to a pneumatic tire comprising a carcass and an innerliner in direct contact with the carcass, the innerliner comprising: a film comprising a blend of a polyamide, an -olefin graft copolymer, and an ionomer; and an adhesive layer disposed between the film and the carcass, the adhesive layer comprising: a polymeric amine and a resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) adhesive. The invention is further directed to a method of building a pneumatic tire comprising the steps of: exposing an innerliner film to a corona discharge to create a corona treated film, the innerliner film comprising a blend of a polyamide, an -olefin graft copolymer, and an ionomer; disposing a polymeric amine onto the corona treated film to create an amine treated film; disposing a resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) adhesive on the amine treated film to create a treated innerliner film; and incorporating the treated innerliner film into a tire build such that the treated innerliner film is in direct contact with a tire carcass.
