A thermoplastic composite article comprising a porous core layer and an open cell skin disposed on a first surface of the core layer is described. The composite article comprises a noise reduction coefficient of at least 0.5 as tested by ASTM C423-17 and a flame spread index of less than 25 and a smoke development index of less than 150 as tested by ASTM E84 dated 2009.

FRP molding system and method

A fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) molding system in which FRP material, having stacked prepregs, is molded to manufacture an arc-shaped FRP component. The FRP molding system comprises inner and outer jig plates, a partial pressing device, and transfer devices. The jig plates are arc-shaped members having outer and inner surfaces that respectively fit with inner and outer surface shapes of the FRP component. The FRP material is sandwiched between the jig plates to form an integrated jig plate. The partial pressing device intermittently compresses a portion of the integrated jig plate in a radial direction orthogonal to an arc of the FRP component so that the FRP component is partially molded. The transfer devices intermittently move the compressed portion of the integrated jig plate by the partial pressing device. By repeating the partial pressing and the transport, the entire integrated jig plate is compressed to form the FRP component.

MOLDED PANELS

A fluid ejection device may include a fluid ejection die including nozzles and fluid feed holes. Each nozzle may have a nozzle orifice formed in a top surface of the fluid ejection die. The fluid feed holes may be formed in a bottom surface of the fluid ejection die and fluidly connected to the nozzles. The fluid ejection device may include a molded panel into which the fluid ejection die is at least partially embedded, the molded panel having a fluid slot formed therethrough such that the fluid slot is fluidly connected to the fluid feed holes of the fluid ejection die, the molded panel formed with a mold chase and a release liner coupled to and at least partially covering an interior surface of the mold chase, the mold chase having a fluid slot feature corresponding to the fluid slot.

Fan track liner
11448090 · 2022-09-20 · ·

A fan track liner for a fan containment arrangement for a gas turbine includes a cellular impact structure and a supporting sub-laminate integrally formed with each other from fibre-reinforced material. The fan track liner further includes a ballistic barrier comprising a woven reinforcing fibre ply and a layer of reinforcing fibre felt. There is also disclosed an associated fan containment arrangement and a method of manufacturing a fan track liner.

Method of forming a linear panel from multi-layer panel material assemblies
11433592 · 2022-09-06 · ·

In one aspect of the present subject matter, a method of forming a linear panel includes drawing a multi-layer panel material assembly having differing inner and outer material layers along a processing path. The method also includes heating the panel material assembly. In addition, the method includes forming the heated panel material assembly into a desired shape as the assembly is drawn along the processing path. Additionally, in another aspect of the present subject matter, a linear panel includes a body formed from a multi-layer panel material assembly having differing inner and outer material layers.

Composite vehicle body

A vehicle body may have an internal skeleton forming a wing shape, and a skin formed over the internal skeleton. The skin may include a matrix material, and a plurality of continuous fibers encased within the matrix material. The plurality of continuous fibers may curve from a base end near a fore/aft center of the wing shape outward toward leading and trailing edges of the wing shape at a tip end.

PANEL FOR A VEHICLE
20220219410 · 2022-07-14 ·

A panel for a vehicle includes a core formed from fibers and a thermoset resin. The panel also includes a first barrier layer positioned on a first side of the core and a second barrier layer positioned on a second side of the core, opposite the first side. Each of the first and second barrier layers is configured to block flow of the thermoset resin from the core during a panel forming process.

PRESS FOR IN-SITU MANUFACTURING A THERMOPLASTIC SANDWICH PANEL
20220097265 · 2022-03-31 ·

A press (10) for manufacturing a sandwich panel comprises a first and second press plate (12; 14) that are movable with respect to one another. The press (10) has a fluid circulation loop for heating and cooling the press plates(12; 14). The fluid circulation N loop comprises a heater (22) for generating a hot fluid connected to a fluid supply conduit(24)in fluid communication with an inlet(18) of at least one internal flow channel (16) in each press plate (12; 14) and connected to a fluid return conduit(26) in fluid communication with an outlet (20) of the at least one internal flow channel(16). The fluid circulation loop is also provided with a controlled expansion valve (34) for cooling by conversion of hot pressurized water into steam, and a water source (38) for slow cooling.

Molding device and molded article manufacturing method

A pressing member is configured to press a portion-to-be-pressed of a continuous-fiber sheet against a recessed surface of a first mold in a state where the continuous-fiber sheet is placed between the first mold and a second mold. A pulling member is configured to bring the continuous-fiber sheet into close contact with the main surface and the recessed surface by pulling a portion of the continuous-fiber sheet located on an outer peripheral side of the portion-to-be-pressed after the pressing member presses the portion-to-be-pressed against the recessed surface.

POSITIONING PROFILES FOR PULTRUSIONS IN COMPOSITE BUS BODY
20220111607 · 2022-04-14 ·

A method of forming a composite vehicle components (e.g. walls, floor, roof) having interleaved foam core members and pre-pultruded reinforcing pillars by pultruding the cores and pillars into a vehicle component (e.g. bus sidewall formed as integral component front to rear) and cutting apertures therein for insertion of vehicle accessories (e.g. windows). Also, vehicle components can be formed having interlocking profiled edges where a first component is inserted into a second component, and rotated to bring the two components into locking engagement. A plurality of components can be formed with the same geometry, and oriented 180 degrees offset from each other to bring their profiled edges adjacent to each other.
