Method of forming a cured elastomer and articles of the cured elastomer
A cured elastomer golf ball component is made by heating an elastomer compound containing an ethylenically unsaturated elastomer, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and first and second free radical initiators to a first crosslinking temperature T.sub.1 in a compression mold and partially crosslinking the elastomer, then heating to a second crosslinking temperature T.sub.2 and curing the elastomer component of the golf ball. Either: (i) the first initiator has a half-life of about 0.2-5 minutes at T.sub.1, the second initiator has a half-life of about 0.2-5 minutes at T.sub.2, and T.sub.2 is higher T.sub.1 by at least about 30° C.; or (ii) the second initiator's one-minute half-life temperature is at least about 30° C. higher than the first initiator's one-minute half-life temperature, T.sub.1 is within about 20° C. of the first initiator's one-minute half-life temperature, and T.sub.2 is within about 20° C. of the second initiator's one-minute half-life temperature.
GOLF BALL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
A golf ball is provided that includes at least one porous resin layer formed of a resin composition containing a polymeric material and a leachable water-soluble polymer. In a method for producing the golf ball, a resin composition containing the polymeric material and the water-soluble polymer is molded to form a solid molded body, following which the water-soluble polymer is partially leached out and removed. The golf ball has an improved ball controllability on approach shots and an improved feel at impact, maintains a good scuff resistance and has a good moldability.
DUAL CORE GOLF BALL INCORPORATING A SOLID SPHERICAL INNER CORE COMPONENT THAT IS IMMOVABLY CENTERED WITHIN THREE OUTER CORE COMPRESSION MOLDABLE PARTS AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME
Dual core golf ball constructions achieving consistent and repeatable concentricity by incorporating/using an assembly of dual core components comprising a solid spherical inner core component and three outer core components that are collectively compression molded about the solid spherical inner core component to create an outer core layer thereabout. The three outer core components include a first half-shell, a second half-shell; and a ring-shaped securing plate such that the solid spherical inner core component is immovably centered within the outer core layer. Each of the first half-shell, the ring-shaped securing plate, and the second half-shell is comprised of the same rubber composition(s) and possess strong cohesive and adhesive bonds at parting lines between the three molded assembly parts and collectively create an outer core layer having one or more uniform property profile, such as a hardness gradient throughout, without interruption at parting lines between the three outer core components.
METHOD OF GOLF BALL MANUFACTURE EMPLOYING ULTRASONIC WELDING, AND RESULTING GOLF BALL AND GOLF BALL COMPONENTS AND/OR LAYERS
A golf ball a core, one or more intermediate layers, and one or more cover layers. The core may comprise an inner portion and an outer portion. One or more layers of the golf ball may be formed by the application of ultrasonic welding on two half shells to form. One or more of the layers may be formed by a number of different chemical compositions, and may have varying thicknesses, hardnesses, coefficients of restitution, and PGA compression. The golf ball itself may have varying coefficient of restitution and PGA compression, depending on the layers.
COLORED GOLF BALL AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME
Golf ball comprising core; casing layer; cover layer; and plurality of outer coating layers. Casing layer comprises an ionomer blend of at least one ionomer and a color concentrate resin that is included in an amount of 3-10 wt.% of the ionomer blend. Cover layer is transparent and comprises thermoplastic/thermoset urethane composition. First outer coating layer is adj acent to cover layer and comprises clear water-borne or solvent-borne primer; and second outer coating layer is adjacent to first outer coating layer and comprises gold pearl primer, white sparkle primer, or combination thereof; third outer coating layer is adjacent to second outer coating layer and comprises a clear topcoat. Alternatively, second outer coating layer comprises matte topcoat, clear glossy topcoat, or combination thereof. In all embodiments, first outer coating layer and/or second outer coating layer may be colorless.
GOLF BALL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
In a golf ball having a core composed of one or more layer, the outermost layer of the core is formed of a rubber composition containing a base rubber and an α,β-unsaturated metal carboxylate, an envelope layer directly encasing the core is formed of a resin composition containing a thermoplastic resin having a structure that includes α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymerization units which accounts for at least 50 wt % of the resin composition, and a surface of the core outermost layer and the envelope layer adjoin each other through an intervening oxazoline group-containing substance. The golf ball has improved adhesion between the rubber-based core and the cover layer that directly encases the core and is formed of an ionomer resin or other α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer-containing resin material.
Closed cell foam article and manufacturing method
Closed cell foam articles, such as sports balls, and related manufacturing methods are disclosed herein. The article includes a main body made of closed-cell elastomeric resin foam having a density ranging between about 0.050 sg and about 0.800 sg after curing. Some articles are assembled by inserting a cured core into a main body so that the core is secured in the main body via an interference fit, and the core has one or more portions extending to the exterior surface of the main body such that the an exposed surface of the one or more exposed portions of the core blend substantially with the exterior surface of the main body.

MULTILAYER CORE MOLDING METHOD
A multilayer core molding method includes an upstream process of molding using an upstream process molding apparatus, which includes a first upstream process mold including a first upstream process mold cavity surface, and a second upstream process mold including a second upstream process mold cavity surface. The upstream process includes an inner core arrangement step and a covering step to obtain an intermediate molded body, which includes the inner core, and the unvulcanized or semi-vulcanized first outer core material covering only part of a surface of the inner core and integrated with the inner core.
MULTI LEATHERS (MATERIALS) INTEGRAL SWING BALL / DUO LEATHERS (MATERIALS) INTEGRAL SWING BALL
This invention is associated with the sport of cricket in particular but not limited to and applicable to other sports and games as well where a ball is used to play. The invention relates that when a cricket ball having combinations of magnets inside with two different leathers (materials) or a combination of multi-leathers (materials) on the two hemispheres, is delivered by a bowler at a speed, an inherent swing is obtained, which is proportional to the difference in the resultant densities on the two hemispheres of the ball. The invention is aimed at providing a technology by which an inherent swing/drifted spin in the delivered ball is inevitably established which is irrespective of any seam positioning, other bowling skills, surrounding and pitch conditions.
