A device to form a honeycomb has an upper continuous belt and a lower continuous belt disposed in parallel and carrying opposing cores. The belts act on liquid wax which is injected into an inlet of the device, with both belts moving in opposition. The inlet has in succession: a scraping zone disposed straight with respect to the upper belt; a zone for opening the cores, which has a certain curvature designed to receive a first injection of wax; and a third straight zone for sealing and expelling any excess wax. At an exit of the device, the longest length of the upper belt has multiple groups of magnetic and non-magnetic rollers for a local curving of the belt to progressively release the honeycomb.

Composite wing structure and methods of manufacture

A method of manufacturing a tiltrotor wing structure including providing a spar mold having a plurality of bores extending from an exterior surface of the mold to an interior surface of the mold, the plurality of bores corresponding to a plurality of primary coordination holes in a spar member, the spar mold having a periphery defined by a top edge, a bottom edge and outboard ends; selecting a plurality of resin impregnated plies to ensure that the plies continuously extend beyond the periphery of the spar mold; laying the plies in the spar mold; curing the plies in the mold to form a cured spar member that extends beyond the periphery of the spar mold; and accurately drilling a plurality of primary coordination holes in the cured spar member in the spar mold using a tool positioned in the plurality of bores.

Manufacturing method of honeycomb structure

A manufacturing method of a honeycomb structure includes a forming step of preparing a forming raw material containing a cordierite forming material and an inorganic binder, and kneading and forming the prepared forming raw material to have a honeycomb shape; and a firing step of firing the prepared formed body. In the forming step, as the inorganic binder, smectite is used in which at least parts of interlayer metal cations are ion-exchanged with non-metal cations. In the smectite, a total amount of sodium to be contained in the smectite is 1.6 mass % or less in terms of oxides to 100 mass % of the smectite. A content ratio of the smectite in the forming raw material is 0.5 parts by mass or more and 4.0 parts by mass or less to 100 parts by mass of the cordierite forming material.

Method for producing a curved honeycomb structure made from composite material

A method of fabricating a curved cellular structure includes making an expandable fiber structure by multilayer weaving between layers of warp yarns and layers of weft yarns, the structure having zones of non-interlinking extending in the thickness of the structure, the non-interlinking zones spaced apart from one another by portions of interlinking between layers of weft yarns, the portions of interlinking offset by one or more weft yarns in a direction parallel to the direction of the layers of weft yarns between each series of these planes; impregnating the fiber structure with a resin; expanding the fiber structure on support tooling to form a cell in the fiber structure at each zone of non-interlinking, the tooling also presenting a curved shape corresponding to the shape of the cellular structure that is to be fabricated; and polymerizing the resin of the fiber structure to form a curved cellular structure.

A honeycomb structural body includes multiple cores, at least face sheet, and at least one reinforcement sheet. The multiple cores each have a honeycomb structure, and are bonded to each other with foamed adhesive in a direction in which the number of multiple pores formed by the honeycomb structure increases. The at least one face sheet is adhered to the multiple cores so as to cover the multiple pores. The reinforcement sheet is placed between the multiple cores and the at least one face sheet, at a position where the reinforcement sheet covers the foamed adhesive.
