Thermoplastic resin sheets and formed articles

[Problem] It is intended to provide a formed article for food which has excellent antistatic properties and water repellency without impairing its original external appearance and mechanical properties thereof even in a deep-drawn part having a high drawing ratio at forming or even through high temperature forming. [Solution] A multi-layer sheet is prepared having a multi-layer configuration with two or more types of two or more layers, including a main layer which contains a thermoplastic resin, talc and white pigment, and a skin layer of an antistatic resin composition which contains at least one type of thermoplastic resin and an antistatic agent on an opposite side. By thermoforming the sheet including the resin composition, a formed article which has excellent antistatic properties and water repellency effective for preventing contamination and adhesion of soup powder can be obtained. The polymer antistatic agent desirably contains a fatty acid ester sulfonate salt as a main component, has a surface resistivity of 10.sup.13/ or less, and has a water droplet contact angle of 90 or more. The multi-layer sheet is desirably prepared by co-extrusion.

The present invention provides a flexible mat with fluid conduit, methods of manufacture thereof and apparatus for the manufacture thereof. In an embodiment, the mat comprises a base layer, one or more fluid conduits and a thermoplastic bonding tape that attaches the fluid conduits to the base layer. The base layer can be a textile fabric, mesh or netting, or a flat flexible sheet. The base layer is preferably also formed of a thermoplastic layer. The fluid conduits can carry heated or cooled fluid, such as water, that can be used for heating or cooling an environment in which the device is deployed. For example, the device can be used for heating or cooling in a greenhouse environment. The fluid conduits can additionally or alternatively carry irrigation fluids, such as water or treated water, for irrigating plants and crops. The fluid conduits can additionally or alternatively carry gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) or carbon dioxide mixed with other gasses, for treating plants and crops.

In the die for extrusion, the shape of a flow path is optimized based on a relationship among a position in the die, an operation time, and a vulcanization degree.

A method of producing an elastic profile with longitudinally recurring transverse protrusions includes extruding a primary profile at a primary extruder; extruding a secondary profile at a secondary extruder, the secondary profile includes a substrate layer and transverse protrusions, the secondary extruder includes an extrusion die, wherein a rotating molding wheel forms a wall of the extrusion die, the molding wheel having recesses functioning as molds for the transverse protrusions within the extrusion die; joining the primary profile and the substrate layer of the secondary profile at a joining point for fusion bonding forming a composite structure. A rotating pressing wheel, may press on the composite structure against a bedding separate from the molding wheel. The primary profile may travel along an entirely straight path from the primary extruder to the joining point. The joining occurs at a nip formed between the molding wheel and a flat and stationary bedding.

A sealing device generally includes a rotatable support cylinder having an outer, circumferential surface and a heating element disposed about such surface and secured thereto such that the heating element rotates therewith. The heating element is coiled about the outer surface of the cylinder in the form of an overlapping helical pattern. Juxtaposed film plies may be sealed together by bringing the sealing device into rotational contact with the juxtaposed film plies and heating the heating element to a temperature sufficient to cause the film plies to seal together.

Juxtaposed film plies may be sealed together by bringing the sealing device into rotational contact with the juxtaposed film plies and heating the heating element to a temperature sufficient to cause the film plies to seal together.
