POLYOLEFINS HAVING IMPROVED DIMENSIONAL STABILITY IN THREE-DIMENSIONAL PRINTING, ARTICLES FORMED THEREFROM, AND METHODS THEREOF
A compounded polymer composition suitable for manufacturing of isotropic three-dimensional printed articles may include an impact copolymer, a low crystalline ethylene/α-olefin copolymer; a nucleating agent; and filler, where the impact copolymer may include a matrix phase comprising a propylene-based polymer or copolymer; and a dispersed phase in the matrix phase, the dispersed phase comprising an ethylene-based copolymer, the ethylene-based copolymer having a C3-C12 comonomer, wherein the dispersed phase has a different composition than the matrix phase.
KAOLIN-FILLED POLYMERIC COMPOSITIONS
Described herein are polymeric composites that can include a kaolin filler dispersed within a thermoplastic polymer matrix. The kaolin filler can exhibit an aspect ratio of from 20 to 50, as measured by laser scattering, a mean particle size of from 0.75 microns to 2 microns e.s.d., as measured by Sedigraph, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the kaolin filler exhibits a ratio of aspect ratio to mean particle size ranges from 4 to 5, as measured by laser scattering. In some embodiments, less than 30% by weight of the kaolin filler exhibits a particle size of less than 0.5 microns e.s.d., as measured by Sedigraph. The composites can exhibit improved mechanical properties such as flexural strength, tensile strength, and heat deflection temperature. The composites can be used to form articles, for example, by thermoforming.
Heat-Stable, Biaxially Oriented, Polypropylene Films
In one example embodiment, disclosed is a biaxially oriented multilayer film, which may include a first tie layer and a second tie layer, wherein each has an inside surface and an outside surface. The film's core layer may consist of: (i) at least 50 wt. % high-crystalline polypropylene; (ii) both cyclic olefin copolymer and polypropylene homopolymer, or, polypropylene heterophasic copolymer; (iii) and, optionally, additives, wherein the core layer is between the inside surface of the first tie layer and the inside surface of the second tie layer. The film may also include a first skin layer on the outside surface of the first tie layer and a second skin layer on the outside surface of the second tie layer, wherein shrinkage is less than 3.5% in a transverse direction for the biaxially oriented multilayer film after subjecting the biaxially oriented multilayer film to 135° C. for 7 min at 1 atm.
Unidirectionally Fiber-Reinforced Endless Winding Ply
The invention relates to a single-ply semi-finished product web which is reinforced with unidirectionally orientated continuous fibers and exhibits a movement direction and comprises a matrix containing at least 60% by weight of one or more thermoplastic polymers selected from the group consisting of polyamide, polyolefin and mixtures thereof and comprising welding seams of overlapping fiber-reinforced semi-finished product web segments at periodically occurring intervals, wherein the fiber plies of the fiber-reinforced semi-finished product web segments overlap, wherein the thickness of the semi-finished product web in the region of the welding seams is at least exactly as high as the arithmetic mean of the other regions of the semi-finished product web, and wherein the width of the regions of the welding seams is more than 1 mm to 8 mm in the movement direction, and wherein the thickness of the semi-finished product web in the regions outside the regions of the welding seams is 0.01 mm to 0.40 mm, and wherein the unidirectionally orientated continuous fibers enclose a predetermined angle with the movement direction, the value α of which is in the range of more than 0° to 90°, and to a method for its manufacture and to its use for manufacturing a multi-layer composite material and/or organic sheet.
