A carbon filter is disclosed. Such a carbon filter includes a carbon-based core having a central cavity, a layer of a polymer-based filter material surrounding the carbon-based core, and at least one end cap fixedly attached to the carbon-based core.

Bonded sheet molding composite automotive components without surface pre-treatment

An automotive assembly comprises a sheet molding composite (SMC) element comprising an SMC sheet body shaped into a generally smooth functional section and at least one generally planar bonding section. The bonding section comprises a textured surface impressed as a result of molding the SMC sheet body in a compression molding tool having a corresponding textured pattern. The textured surface has a predetermined surface roughness for increasing the effective surface area of the bonding section relative to a non-textured surface. The predetermined surface roughness is in a range from 0.25 R.sub.a (m) to 8.5 R.sub.a (m). A second element has a secondary bonding surface adjoining the bonding section of the SMC element. An adhesive joins the secondary bonding surface to the bonding section without requiring any pre-treatment of the bonding section.

METHODS OF PRODUCING A CELLULAR STRUCTURE AND ARTICLES PRODUCED THEREBY

A method of producing a cellular structure via an additive manufacturing technique includes the steps of: providing a feedstock material to an additive manufacturing printer device; dispensing the feedstock material from the printer device; and controlling the dispensing of the feedstock material to form at least one layer of the cellular structure according to a first predetermined gradient. In some aspects, the cellular structure comprises an array of cells surrounded, respectively, by walls, and arranged to create a non-uniform relative density and/or cell geometry across a width and/or a height of the cellular structure. An article of manufacture produced by such methods includes a cellular structure configured to produce a controlled collapse with selectable dynamic stiffness characteristics by altering the distribution and geometry of cells within the cellular structure, while being able to maintain a substantially similar static stiffness characteristic.

Sound-attenuating mufflers and muffler inserts, and systems and uses of such mufflers and muffler inserts. Continuous fiberglass roving is fed to a pneumatic jet head which fluffs the roving and presents the fluffed roving to a delivery wand at the exit end of the jet head. The delivery wand is moved along a predetermined three-dimensional path such that the wand delivery tip travels along a predetermined three-dimensional path inside a mold while-depositing fluffed fiberglass strands into the mold along the predetermined path. A terminal end portion of a liquid resin conduit is mounted to the fiberglass-dispensing wand, as part of the delivery tip, and drip-feeds liquid resin onto the fiberglass as the fiberglass is being deposited in the mold. The undulating, up and down movement of the delivery tip produces a wave-like undulating pattern in the appearance of the rovings in the resulting molded product.

Problem To suppress the distribution of adsorption materials and binders between a heat-transfer member and a heat-transfer member from being disproportioned.

SOLUTION TO PROBLEM There is provided a method for preparinq an adsorption device in which activated carbons are held in an area of accommodating a plurality of heat-transfer members 34 arranged by intervals with each other in a main body part 31. The method includes a filling step (step 102) for filling a slurry filler 45, in which porous particles 41 and binder resins 42 are dispersed in a solvent 46, into the area , to fill the filler 45 into at least a clearance S between the heat-transfer member 34 and the heat-transfer member 34, an evaporating step (step 103) for heating the main body part 31 in which the filler 45 is filled in the area in a first-temperature range to evaporate the solvent 46, and a hardening step (step 104) for heating the main body part 31 in which the solvent 46 is evaporated in the evaporating step (step 103) in a second temperature range higher than the first temperature range to harden the binder resins 42.
