Fiber-material molding machine and fiber-material molding method
A molding machine places strips of a tape material side by side and molds the tape material into a molded shape having a web portion and a flange portion, the tape material including a continuous fiber bundle extending in a longitudinal direction. The molding machine includes spreading unit able to increase a width of the tape material by spreading the tape material, and a laying roller that places the tape material which has passed through the spreading unit onto a surface of a molding tool. The spreading unit continuously changes the width of the tape material to avoid generation of a gap between adjacent strips of the tape material, the adjacent strips being adjacent to each other when the tape material is placed on the surface of the molding tool, and the laying roller places the strips of the tape material side by side in a plurality of rows.
Fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin molded article and fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin molding material
A fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin molded article contains inorganic fibers (A), organic fibers (B), and a thermoplastic resin (C), the fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin molded article containing 5 to 45 parts by weight of the inorganic fibers (A), 1 to 45 parts by weight of the organic fibers (B), and 10 to 94 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin (C), based on 100 parts by weight of the total of the inorganic fibers (A), the organic fibers (B), and the thermoplastic resin (C), the inorganic fibers (A) in the fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin molded article having a weight average fiber length (L.sub.wa) of 0.01 mm or more and 3 mm or less, the organic fibers (B) having a weight average fiber length (L.sub.wb) of more than 4 mm and 20 mm or less.
Aircraft comprising composite structural component, and method for forming composite structural component
A method for fabricating a composite wing structural component for an aircraft is described. The method comprises extruding a filler material into each mold channel of a plurality of mold channels of a die to form a plurality of filler segments, removing the plurality of filler segments from the plurality of mold channels of the die, and arranging the plurality of filler segments in a space in the composite structural component, the space being defined by a radius of the composite structural component, such that the filler segments are in end-to-end contact. The method further comprises curing the plurality of filler segments in the space to fuse the plurality of filler segments.
In-situ monitoring of thermoformable composites
A method and system for determining the quality and configuration of a structure that is constructed from a thermoformable material, such as a thermoplastic or thermoset material, and in particular thermoplastic composite tapes, where heat is applied to cure the thermoformable material. The quality of the build is monitored during the construction of the structure by determining the differential heat flux in the material as it cools from its elevated temperature. The system and method also may determine the location of defects in a structure being constructed so that remedial measures may be taken or production operations halted to address the defect. A transient thermal effect is applied to the structure being monitored, such as the thermoformable material being applied, which may be implemented from the applied heating of the thermoformable construction application process or additional heating.
Composite assembly
A composite assembly with a laminate of fibre plies impregnated with a laminate matrix material is disclosed having pad of fibre plies impregnated with a pad matrix material, and a part with a body with protrusions which extend from the body and penetrate at least some of the fibre plies of the pad. The pad is bonded to the laminate by a stepped lap joint or a scarf joint. The assembly is manufactured by pressing the protrusions into the pad, and after the protrusions have been pressed into the pad, curing a pad matrix material impregnating the pad, and bonding the pad to the laminate.

Junction structure
A junction structure includes a first metallic material, a second material different in type from the first metallic material, and a welding wire as a third material similar to the first metallic material. The second material is stacked on the first material. The molten metal of the third metallic material is deposited by arc welding into the through part of the second material so as to form a flanged or tapered bead, so that the first and third metallic materials and the second material are fixed together.
