Reinforced metal alloy for enhanced armor protection
An armor plate is provided having a lamination of an embedded reinforcement basalt fiber mesh within a laminated cast metal alloy; and at least two layers of an aramid fiber. A process to make the armor plate can include suspending a basalt weave within a mold; heating aluminum 6061 or 7075 alloy to a molten state; pouring the molten aluminum into the mold; cooling the resultant matrixed aluminum to ambient temperature; and laminating at least two layers of ballistic fiber to the matrixed aluminum.
Ceramics with engineered microstructures via 3D printing and templated grain growth
A three-dimensional (3D) printing composition includes ceramic filaments comprising an additive having an aspect ratio of at least 2:1. 3D printed ceramic articles include the ceramic filaments.
Resin member and method for bonding resin members
A resin member contains a thermoplastic resin and is bonded to another resin member by ultrasonic welding. The resin member includes: a melting start portion to which contact pressure is applied during the ultrasonic welding; a groove unit that is formed around a periphery of the melting start portion; and at least one wall that is formed so as to cross a direction from the melting start portion toward an outside and partitions the groove unit.

RUNNER PROTECTION TUBE FOR STEEL CASTING AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF
The disclosure provides a runner protection tube for steel casting and a manufacturing method thereof. The runner protection tube for steel casting is made of a slurry composition for forming the runner protection tube for steel casting, the slurry composition includes organic fibers, inorganic fibers, thermosetting resins, thermoplastic resins, inorganic particles, inorganic binders, water, a lubricating oil and a hydrating agent.
System and method for manufacturing off-axis prepreg material
An off-axis prepreg material manufacturing machine may include a robot configured to position a prepreg piece adjacent to an end of a prepreg layer. The machine may additionally include an alignment system configured to sense a position of the prepreg piece relative to the prepreg layer and generate a position signal representative thereof. The machine may also include a controller configured to receive the position signal and cause the robot to adjust the position of the prepreg piece such that an end edge of the prepreg piece and an end edge of the prepreg layer are in substantially abutting contact.

Rotor blades having thermoplastic components and methods of assembling same
The present disclosure is directed to a method of assembling a modular rotor blade of a wind turbine. The method includes identifying a main blade structure, constructed at least in part, from at least one of a thermoset or a thermoplastic material. The method also includes identifying at least one blade segment, constructed at least in part, of a thermoplastic material reinforced with at least one of glass fibers or carbon fibers. Thus, the method also includes securing the at least one blade segment to the main blade structure, e.g. via welding.

METHOD FOR STIFFENING METAL COMPONENTS BY MEANS OF A ROBOT-CONTROLLED APPLICATION HEAD
In order to optimize a method for stiffening a metal component by pressing a fiber-reinforced plastic insert onto the metal component in such a way that the method can be integrated into the serial production of the car body, it is proposed that the fiber-reinforced plastic insert be picked up by means of a robot-controlled application head and pressed onto the metal component.
