Fastener and method for joining dissimilar materials

A fastener and method for joining dissimilar materials. The fastener has a metal body and a hollow portion. The method includes the steps of: layering a thermoplastic first component with a second component such that the first component covers an opening formed through the second component; pressing the metal fastener against the first component through the opening in the second component; and heating the thermoplastic at an interface of the metal fastener and the first component so that the thermoplastic flows into the hollow portion of the metal fastener during the step of pressing. A portion of the metal fastener is thus embedded in the thermoplastic and a joint is formed that attaches the first and second components together when the thermoplastic is cooled.

wherein the container interior a. has a maximum diameter in a plane perpendicular to a height of the container interior, and b. has a diameter less than the maximum diameter of the container interior at least in sections in the direction from the plane to the container opening.

The invention further relates to a method of superimposing a container precursor with a polymer composition; a container obtainable by that method; an apparatus for superimposing a container precursor with a polymer composition; a method of filling and closing one of the aforementioned containers and the closed container obtainable thereby; and uses of a filling machine, of one of the aforementioned containers, of a polymer composition, and of a powder coating system.

System and method for increasing density of structural composites

In one embodiment, a method for making a high density structural composite includes depositing a plurality of fibrous materials on or adjacent a first plate or surface. A polymer liquid is deposited onto the plurality of fibrous materials to form a composite mixture. A first cyclic pressure is applied onto the composite mixture to compress the composite mixture. In some embodiments, the cyclic pressure may then be reduced to a valley pressure to complete a pressurization cycle. In some instances, the valley pressure may be below atmospheric pressure to induce trapped air and volatile gases to escape from the composite mixture before curing. The pressurization cycle may be repeated. A second pressure, which may be a constant pressure in some embodiments, may be applied to the composite mixture using, in some embodiments, a second plate until the polymer liquid has at least partially cured or partially solidified.

Flexible golf club grip with stable cap

A flexible elastomeric grip for the shaft of a golf club having an end cap with a cavity for receiving a sensor and/or counterweight. The cap has a durometer hardness equal to or greater than the tubular body portion of the grip and a flange sized to match the larger diameter of the body, with a sleeve engaging the inner periphery of the larger end of the tubular body. In one version of the cap, the sleeve portion is extended in length and has stiffening ribs on the outer surface of the sleeve; and, in another version, the sleeve is shorter and may also have stiffening ribs on the outer surface of the sleeve. In another version of the cap, fibrous material is disposed in the flange and sleeve to increase lateral stiffness without increasing durometer.

Method and device for connecting fibre-reinforced webs

Method and device for connecting two webs (1), reinforced with unidirectionally oriented continuous fibres, by ultrasonic welding, wherein the fibres are embedded in a matrix of polycarbonate and the webs have abutting edges that are substantially square and substantially flat, characterized by the following steps:arranging the webs abutting one another in the region of the abutting edges in a welding device between a sonotrode (2) and an anvil (3),welding the webs by means of ultrasound, wherein the sonotrode and the anvil exert pressure on the webs to be welded in the melting region between the webs and perpendicularly to the abutting edges of the webs, removing the welded-together webs (4) from the welding device.

Thermoplastic/thermoset grafted composites

Disclosed are thermoset/thermoplastic composites that include a thermoset component directly or indirectly bonded to a thermoplastic component via a crosslinked binding layer between the two. The crosslinked binding layer is bonded to the thermoplastic component via epoxy linkages and is either directly or indirectly bonded to the thermoset component via epoxy linkages. The composite can be a laminate and can provide a route for addition of a thermoplastic implant to a thermoset structure.
