A beverage machine that brews beverages from a beverage pod is described. The pod is container with a top surface and a bottom surface connected by a sidewall that form a cylinder. The pod contains whole brewing elements that can be ground into sub-elements by the brewing system for brewing into a beverage. The pod is actuatable between an open state and a closed state by a breaking system of the beverage machine. In the closed state the brewing elements are contained and in the open state the elements are released. The pod includes a failure mechanism on the sidewall that is engineered to fail when the pod is actuated by a breaking mechanism of the beverage machine. When actuated the failure mechanism fails such that the beverage pod can be pulled into a top portion and a bottom portion to release the brewing elements.

The robotic manipulator equipped with a water injection unit, which moves the water injection unit according to the process of brewing pour over coffee to pour water to a coffee dripper simultaneously to make coffee. The storage unit stores data, such as a position where the water to be poured, a route of the process of brewing pour over coffee, a speed of the pouring motion and the required amount of water to be poured during the process of brewing pour over coffee.

A coffee roasting apparatus (100) is disclosed that comprises a compartment (110) for holding coffee beans (10); a roasting element (140) for directing a heated air flow through said compartment; a particulate matter sensor (120) for detecting a peak amount of particulate matter in said air flow; and a controller (130) arranged to control said roasting element. The controller is adapted to select a defined control time for said roasting element as a function of an amount of time lapsed from the start of the roasting process until the detection of said peak amount; and apply the defined control time to said roasting element after first cracking of the coffee beans to complete the roasting of the coffee beans in order to obtain a consistent roasting result. A coffee brewing apparatus including such a coffee roasting apparatus and a method of controlling such a coffee roasting apparatus are also disclosed.
