10327543 · 2019-06-25 · ·

An edge trim for pieces of furniture, including a meltable layer, is described. The molecular structure of the meltable layer contains both polar and non-polar parts. By way of a non-limiting example, an edge trim for pieces of furniture having an exposed edge of wooden or wood substitute material is described, comprising a molten layer and a structural layer, wherein the structural layer and the molten layer are connected in an adhesive bond, wherein the molten layer is made of a material that is chemically modified such that polar and non-polar components are found in a single molecular structure, wherein the molten layer contains energy absorbing additives, wherein the energy absorbing additives of the molten layer are selected from the group consisting of metal oxides, metal phosphates, metal salts of organic anions and combinations thereof.

HINGE MOLD PROCESS FOR CREATING STRUCTURAL FORMS AND SHAPES
20190118429 · 2019-04-25 · ·

A process and assembly for producing a structural article, as well as an article produced according to any process and assembly. A mold has a base and a hinged lid, either or both of which include a cavity interior which defines a negative of the structural article to be produced. A structural insert placed within the mold, prior or subsequent to a plasticized and structural forming foam material also being placed within the mold. The foam cures and sets in encapsulating fashion around the insert so that, upon removal, the insert is coated within the formed material.

METHOD FOR FORMING VOLUMETRIC BODIES

The invention relates to a method for forming volumetric bodies (100), for example of elements from the furniture or component industries, comprising the steps of: foaming an application material, applying the application material in order to form a volumetric body in several segments, and adjusting the pore size of the foamed application material depending on the segment of the volumetric body in question.

Blow molded resin furniture having a stabilizing box structure

The invention involves a system and method for constructing lawn furniture. The system includes box type beam members as well as a large box structure supported above a ground surface. The box structure provides rigidity and stability to the furniture while also functioning as storage space. The components are formed to ship in a dissembled compact state and snap together with minimal use of fasteners and tools.

PROCESS FOR PRODUCING LONGER FIBERS IN INJECTION MOLDED SOLID PARTS BY DISSOLVING OF GAS DURING PLASTICIZING

The disclosure is directed to a solid part, and a device and process of making the solid part. The process includes introducing a glass fiber filled polymeric material to a hopper of an injection molding machine, where the glass fibers have a pre-molding length, melting the glass fiber filled polymeric material to form a melt in a plasticizing unit, pressurizing the plasticizing unit of the injection molding machine with a blowing agent, dissolving the blowing agent into the melt, injecting the melt into a mold cavity up to 100% of volume, and forming the solid part.

SYSTEM, METHOD AND COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR EDGING PARTS BY PRINTING
20190023045 · 2019-01-24 ·

System, method and computer program for edging parts by industrial printing techniques. The system (1) comprises a scanner (3), a control unit (4) and a printing unit (5) that are communicated with each other. The scanner (3) explores an initial surface (6) of the part (2) and generates a captured image (9). The control unit (4) processes the captured image (9) and generates a processed image (13) by the calculation of a mirror image (42). The printing unit (5) receives the processed image (13) and prints it on a second surface (14) of the part (2). The capture and printing surfaces (6, 14) are arranged on different planes, for example, significantly perpendicular planes. Thus, the invention enables the edging of parts by printing, providing visual continuity between both surfaces (6, 14) of the part (2) thanks to the generation of the mirror image (42).

An Edge-Banding Apparatus and Method

An edge-banding apparatus is provided and configured to apply an edging strip having a heat activated layer to a substrate or work piece. The apparatus uses localised heat generated from a controlled flame from combustible fuel to apply heat to the edging strip to active the heat activated layer.

The apparatus comprises: a. an edging strip feeding device to feed the edging strip along a predetermined path towards the substrate or work piece; b. a source of combustible fuel; c. a fuel delivery device in fluid communication with the source of combustible fuel such that combustible fuel can be delivered to the fuel delivery device; and d. an ignition device configured to ignite the combustible fuel at or near the fuel delivery device such that a controlled flame is generated by the fuel delivery device;

The apparatus further comprises one or more controllers configured to control one or more properties of the controlled flame of combustible fuel such that the heat from the flame activates the heat activated layer of the edging strip such that the edging strip is applied to the substrate or work piece.

A method of applying an edging strip having a heat activated layer to a substrate or work piece is also provided.

METHOD OF FASTENING AN OBJECT TO A CONSTRUCTION ELEMENT
20180370181 · 2018-12-27 ·

A method of fastening an edge structure to a construction element includes providing the construction element, being a planar structure with with two cover regions and a middle region between the cover regions; providing the edge structure being continuously extended, the edge structure having contact surfaces with a thermoplastic material shaped to lie against the cover regions in an outer surface of the construction element, and, opposite the contact surfaces, a coupling-in surface for coupling energy into the edge structure; coupling energy into the edge structure and pressing the contact surfaces against the cover regions until at least a portion of the thermoplastic material is liquefied and pressed into the cover regions; and repeating or continuing the steps of coupling and pressing until the edge structure is attached to the building element at a plurality of discrete locations or over an extended region along an edge of the construction element.

Blow molded part including compression molded element

In one example, a method includes positioning a tool in a mold, forming a parison of melted plastic, closing the mold around the parison and tool such that part of the tool is positioned between a portion of the mold and the parison, creating a blow molded structure by inflating the parison so that the melted plastic comes into contact with an interior portion of the mold and into contact with the tool, and after the mold is closed, operating the tool to form an integral compression molded element within the mold, and a parting line formed by the mold in the blow molded structure forms no part of the integral compression molded element.
