Battery assembly techniques and a corresponding system are disclosed. In various embodiments, the battery assembly techniques include compressing battery cells and inserting the battery cells in a can. Battery cells are stacked and then compressed using pneumatic cylinders that exert pressure on a first external layer of the stacked battery cells. A first portion of the stacked battery cells is released from the pneumatic cylinders while a second portion of the battery cells remains compressed. The first portion of the stacked battery cells is inserted in a can. In various embodiments, friction decreasing materials are added to the stacked battery cells to compress the stacked battery cells or ease insertion.

The pressing tool comprises a number of base jaws which are arranged about a press axis and can be moved by the drive unit towards or away from the press axis in a synchronous manner and radially in relation to said press axis, and substantially wedge-shaped press-jaw heads can be exchangeably attached to the base jaws. A plurality of press-jaw head sets is stored in an associated magazine, the press-jaw head sets being for different press diameters. The press-jaw heads have two markings on at least one axial end side directly adjacent to both wedge surfaces. In addition, the two respective opposing markings of two neighboring press-jaw heads are aligned with one another. Markings that are different from one another are provided for different press-jaw head sets.

A plurality of die are carried by the constraining structure and arranged in a circular pattern about a central axis. Each die has a base side positioned in parallel juxtaposition to a corresponding bearing surface and each die is constrained to move reciprocally and linearly along the corresponding bearing surface. Working surfaces of the plurality of die cooperate to form a cavity that is movable between an open position and a closed position. A driving mechanism is coupled to at least one of the plurality of die to drive all of the die in unison between the open position and the closed position.

CELL ASSEMBLIES AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to cell assemblies for fabricating superhard materials (e.g., used in a high-pressure cubic press) and methods of using the same. The disclosed cell assemblies include a plurality of internal anvils, at least some of which are positioned internally relative to a cell pressure medium of the cell assembly. Such a configuration for the cell assemblies may enable one or more of intensifying cell pressure, reducing processing time, or reducing costs for fabricating such superhard materials.
