An interlocking plug is shaped to extend through the internal bore of the burr, the interlocking plug having a sidewall surface which is tapered with respect to the axis of the shaft, such that the sidewall surface abuts the surface of the burr to seat the interlocking plug within the burr. An adjustment knob engages the end of the shaft for locking the interlocking plug within the burr.

The grinding mechanism includes a grinder plate and a motor to rotate the grinder plate in response to a signal received from the sensor. Holes in the grinder plate and apertures in the end cap allow for passage of the spices out of the dispenser. A support assembly is also provided for supporting the dispenser above a food item.
