A feed unit individually feeds covering blanks from a reservoir to the conveyor unit in a sequence of feed instants. An erecting machine folds box blanks into corresponding boxes. A positioner individually positions the boxes from the erecting machine, in alignment on corresponding covering blanks disposed on the belt of the conveyor unit. A gluer spreads glue on one face of the covering blanks. A covering machine folds the covering blanks into contact with their respective boxes to cover the boxes. A control unit connected to the feed unit adjustably sets a phase displacement of the feed instants relative to the sequence of stops of the belt.

The main components of the system include a staging area, an elevator area, a safety door positioned therebetween, and a carriage movable therebetween when the safety door is in the open position. The elevator has a right side wall a left side wall and an elevator platform. The platform is vertically moveable between a lowered position and a predetermined height. In the lowered position the elevator platform is below the height of the carriage. The walls each define a plurality of support finger housings, each of which contain an extendable support finger. When the elevator platform is in the lowered position each support finger is retracted and contained entirely within its housing. When the elevator reaches a predetermined height each support finger is extended.

The scoring station actuator shifts the scoring tool to form a slot in the web. The forming tool receives the scored web and includes a vertically shiftable positive mold assembly and negative mold assembly. The forming station actuator shifts the positive mold assembly to press against the web and form the pressware product.

The piece of cut cardboard is scored to create a plurality of fold-lines, based at least in part on the first plurality of measurements, and a second plurality of measurements are made. A fold-line between a major panel and a minor panel is folded, based at least in part on the second plurality of measurements, and a third plurality of measurements are made. A fold-line of a tab of the piece of cut cardboard is folded, based at least in part on the third plurality of measured distances. The tab is glued to a panel of the piece of cardboard to form a knocked-down case.
