Cutting of Adhesive Materials with Water-Soluble Protective Layer

A pre-assembled kit of cut shapes disposed upon a peelable or repositionable adhesive by means of an affixing adhesive protected by a water-soluble coating which is solubilised either prior to and/or on application of the kit to a surface which may be moistened prior to application. When the water-soluble coating is solubilised, in whole or in part, by placing in contact with the moistened surface, it will expose and/or activate, in whole or in part, the pressure-sensitive adhesive beneath the water-soluble coating to the surface to which it is to be applied and the pre-assembled kit will become affixed to the surface. Alternatively, solubilisation of the water-soluble coating may be provided by applying water, preferably warm water, to the water-soluble coating prior to applying the pre-assembled kit to the surface. A method of producing the pre-assembled kit of cut shapes is provided. In preferred embodiments the protective water-soluble coating is substantially a formulation of poly-vinyl alcohol or polyurethane polymers.

COMPOSITE STRUCTURES FOR PACKAGING ARTICLES AND RELATED METHODS
20200291579 · 2020-09-17 ·

The composite structure includes a fiber-containing layer, such as a fiberboard layer or other layer having fibers from natural and/or synthetic sources, and a mineral-containing layer covering the fiber-containing layer. The fiber-containing layer and mineral-containing layer can be shaped, sized and manufactured such that the composite structure formed therefrom is capable of being machined to form a storage article. The composite structure has advantages in that it can improve whiteness, opacity, ink adhesion, materials reduction, barrier properties, recyclability, and printability. The composite can reduce polymer mass requirements for heat seal, barrier, and fiber adhesion. Further improvements include economics, pliability, and flexibility that is increased over the pliability of the fiber-containing layer alone.

Protective articles

A protective article is disclosed including a sheet with a first surface, and at least one adhesive portion arranged on the first surface. The adhesive is a water-based adhesive, such as a water-based acrylic adhesive, that allows the sheet to be non-permanently adhered to an object. The adhesive may be sprayed, rolled, printed, or stamped onto the first surface.

LASER CUTTING OF PRINTED LABELS
20200257945 · 2020-08-13 ·

Apparatuses and embodiments related to compensated laser cutting of labels. A computer system receives an image of a label, and rasterizes the image. The computer system determines how much of each type of printer ink of a label printer to deposit at each pixel location of the image. The computer system determines which pixels intersect a cut line, and determines the characteristics of the ink of the pixels, such as the quantity or thickness of the ink at the pixel locations. The computer system determines laser data including power, cut speed, and/or frequency of a laser that is tuned to accurately cut through the ink that forms the image, the material(s) of the label, and the adhesive that removably adheres the label to base material(s), but to not excessively damage the base material(s). A laser cutting system uses the laser data to control a laser.

Printing apparatus for printing on labels on roll paper and method for detecting number of remaining labels on roll paper

In a printing apparatus for performing printing on labels of roll paper formed by winding a label sheet with the labels peelably attached to the label sheet, a label remaining number detecting unit, during a printing operation, determines a thickness of the label sheet from a length between the labels included in the label sheet fed out from a label sheet feed-out unit to a printing unit, the length being determined by a label length detecting unit while a distance to a cylindrical outer surface of the roll paper detected by a distance sensor.

Label with dissolvable liner and methods of making and using same
10726746 · 2020-07-28 · ·

A method of making a label and securing the label to a substrate. The method comprises formulating a dissolvable liner coating. The label has a face stock comprising an upper side and a lower side. The dissolvable liner coating comprises each of a remoistenable adhesive, activated coconut carbon filtered water, and gypsum. The method includes situating an adhesive on the lower side. The method comprises covering the adhesive on the lower side with the dissolvable liner coating. The method includes printing indicia on the upper side while the dissolvable liner coating is covering the adhesive. The method comprises causing the dissolvable liner coating to come into contact with water to cause the dissolvable liner coating to dispel to thereby expose the adhesive. The face stock lower side is secured to the substrate via the exposed adhesive.
