Method for designing a corrugated roofing sheet made of natural fibers, impregnated with bitumen including a uniform pattern of mutually parallel alternating corrugations borne by a mid-plane, the corrugations defining rounded crests each separated from the next by a rounded trough, the crests and trough being connected by alternately inclined portions, the transverse offset between two successive crests being equal to the transverse offset between two successive troughs and defining the pitch P of the corrugations, the sheet having a thickness E of material substantially constant over its extent, and a height H being twice the distance between the mid-plane and the exterior surface of a crest or twice the distance between the mid-plane and the exterior surface of a trough, these two distances being identical. The height, thickness and pitch values are determined by Fi<H.sup.3/(8?E?(H+P))<Fs, where Fi=25 mm and Fs=35 mm.

Asphalt-based roofing materials, such as shingles, are disclosed that include a band of a parting material. The asphalt-based roofing material includes at least one asphalt-coated substrate that defines a headlap portion and a tab portion each having opposed top and bottom surfaces; a layer of backdust applied to at least a portion of the bottom surface of the headlap portion and to at least a portion of the bottom surface of the tab portion; a release section of parting material applied to the layer of backdust, where the parting material is included in the in the range of 0.0005 kg/m.sup.2 to 1 kg/m.sup.2; and an adhesive.

A shingle patch for repairing a damaged portion of a damaged shingle including a base member having colored granules associated with at least a portion of its top surface, a two sided adhesive tape having its top adhesive surface attached to the bottom surface of the base member and its bottom adhesive surface attachable directly to the damaged portion of the damaged shingle. In one embodiment, the two sided adhesive tape can extend past one end portion of the base member to form a notched portion and, in another embodiment, only a portion of the top adhesive surface is attached to only a portion of the bottom surface of the base member to form a flap portion which is movable to expose the remaining portion of the top adhesive surface of the two sided adhesive tape located under the flap portion to allow a roofing nail to be nailed therethrough.
