High performance acoustic door

An acoustic door assembly having 1 thickness, a sound transmission class (STC) rating greater than 50, UL10C 20-minute fire rating, and constructed without sheet metal or lead. In an embodiment, the door assembly includes a frame housing a decoupled internal core sandwiched between two mass-loaded vinyl outer faces. The internal core includes a multi-layering of low-density layers for absorbing high-frequency noise, damping layers of mass-loaded vinyl for absorbing low-frequency noise, and a flame-retardant layer. The outer faces are a multi-layered assembly coupled to a frame of the door assembly and in contact communication to the internal core, the outer faces having layers of mass-loaded vinyl, plywood, high-density fiberboard, and a veneer.

Multifunctional system for passive heat and water management

In an embodiment, a multifunctional material system is provided and can include a variable-permeability layer, a desiccant containing layer, and a vapor-permeable supporting layer. The variable-permeability layer can have a vapor permeability that increases with increasing relative humidity. The desiccant containing layer can be adjacent the variable-permeability layer. The vapor-permeable supporting layer can be positioned adjacent at least one of the variable-permeability layer and the desiccant containing layer. Water moves in a first direction from the variable-permeability layer to the desiccant layer when relative humidity is greater adjacent the variable-permeability layer than the desiccant layer. Water moves a second, opposing direction, from the desiccant containing layer to the variable-permeability layer when the relative humidity is greater adjacent the desiccant containing layer than the variable-permeability layer. The rate of water motion in the first direction is greater than the second direction when the humidity gradient is reversed.

Porous ceramic material obtained by weaving and acoustic panel including such a material

The present disclosure concerns a porous body made of a ceramic-matrix composite material for an acoustic attenuation panel and a method of manufacturing the porous body. The porous body includes a plurality of interwoven ceramic fibers, a metal oxide matrix, and a plurality of channels interwoven with the ceramic fibers and interconnected together. The channels define at least one cavity. In one form, at least one channel is wrapped around a ceramic fiber. In another form, at least one ceramic fiber and at least one channel are twisted together. In yet another form, at least one channel is wrapped around a ceramic fiber and twisted with the ceramic fiber. The present disclosure also concerns an acoustic attenuation panel including the porous body and an aircraft propulsion unit having such a panel.
