FORMABLE FILMS, LAMINATE STRUCTURES, AND RELATED METHODS

Formable films are provided that include one or more biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate layers. The formable films include a metaphase with a metaphase transition of about 180 C. to 200 C. as measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The formable films further include a molded volume of greater than 200%. Laminate structures including the formable films and processes for producing and using the formable films and laminate structures are also provided.

Methods of handling adhesive laminate patches. A first article, passed over a first supporting structure, includes disconnected adhesive laminate patches adhered to a first web, each patch being aligned over and adhered to a tab. A second web can be passed over a second supporting structure that is separated from the first supporting structure by a gap. The first article can be passed over the first supporting structure to lift a leading portion of a first tab and a first patch off of the first web together, such that the first tab facilitates transfer of the first patch across the gap. The first patch can then be adhered to the second web; and the second web can be advanced to transfer the first patch, and first tab, onto the second web to form a second article comprising patches aligned over tabs on the second web.

The present disclosure pertains to a trim part for a motor vehicle that comprises: a carrier; and a decorative material applied onto an upper surface of the carrier, wherein the decorative material comprises a printed thermoplastic film; and wherein the trim part is shaped by a deep-drawing process and a grain or impression is produced on the visible side of the film, which faces away from the carrier, by the deep-drawing process. A method and a device for manufacturing the trim part is also proposed.

The stack includes at least one sheet of a thermoformable polymer, and can include many such sheets. A barrier layer is interposed between at least an overlapping portion at least two of the polymeric sheets in order to prevent fusion of the sheets in the overlapping portion during the thermoforming process. The barrier layer can include an adhesive that adheres the sheets in the overlapping portion. In formed articles including such an adhesive, the sheets can be manually peeled from one another if a suitable adhesive is selected. The stack (and object formed using the stack) can include polymeric sheets that are not thermoformable, but are adhered to the surface of a thermoformable sheet.

The disclosure relates to containers and other shaped articles that have a relatively thick substrate layer and one or more relatively thin liner sheets peelably adhered thereto. Animal litter can be placed atop the liner sheets, preferably in a concave portion to contain the litter. The liner sheets have perforations extending therethrough that permit the passage of non-soiled litter, but do not permit the passage of at least one of animal feces and soiled animal litter, such as clumps of litter and urine. After an animal has deposited waste on or in the litter, the liner sheet can be peeled from the container and waste unable to pass through the perforations can be collected.
