A controller operates the machining head to mill a section of the rough side opposite the finished face of the slab that is positioned upside down on vacuum pods on the work table using a milling wheel received within the machining head, corresponding to side edge areas of a finished cut slab and lamination strips configured to build up the side edge areas of the finished cut slab. The machining head cuts the slab using a circular saw blade that had been switched out and received within the machining head into a final geometrical form for the finished cut slab and into the lamination strips.
