PRE-FRACTURED GLASS COMPOSITES AND LAMINATES WITH IMPACT RESISTANCE AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME
A pre-fractured glass laminate that includes: a glass substrate comprising a thickness, a pair of opposed primary surfaces, a compressive stress region, a central tension (CT) region and a plurality of cracks; a second phase comprising a polymer or a cured resin within the plurality of cracks; a backing layer; and an interlayer disposed between one of the primary surfaces of the substrate and the backing layer. The compressive stress region extends from each of the primary surfaces to a first selected depth in the substrate. Further, the plurality of cracks is located in the CT region.
Laminate having organic ink decoration and high impact resistance
A decorated laminate including: an outer ply; an inner ply; a polymer interlayer between the inner ply and the outer ply; and organic ink printed decoration on one or both of internal surfaces of the laminate between the outer ply and the polymer interlayer or between the inner ply and polymer interlayer, wherein the decorated laminate has a stone impact resistance as defined herein. Also disclosed is a method of making and using the decorated laminate.

The principles and embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to complexly curved laminates made from a complexly curved substrate and a flat substrate, such as automotive window glazings, and methods of cold forming complexly-curved glass products from a curved substrate and a flat substrate. In one or more embodiments, the laminate includes first complexly-curved glass substrate with a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, a second complexly-curved glass substrate with a third surface and a fourth surface opposite the third surface with a thickness therebetween; and a polymer interlayer affixed to the second convex surface and third surface, wherein the third surface and fourth surface have compressive stress values respectively that differ such that the fourth surface has as compressive stress value that is greater than the compressive stress value of the third surface.
Multilayer interlayer having sound damping properties over a broad temperature range
A polymer interlayer having improved sound insulation is disclosed. The polymer interlayer comprises: at least one soft layer wherein the soft layer comprises a poly(vinyl butyral) resin composition having a dispersity in composition of at least 0.40 and a plasticizer; and a stiff layer comprising a poly(vinyl butyral) resin composition and a plasticizer; wherein the polymer interlayer has a damping loss factor (η) (as measured by Mechanical Impedance Measurement according to ISO 16940) of at least about 0.15 measured at two or more different temperatures selected from 10° C., 20° C. and 30° C.
Polymer interlayers having improved sound insulation properties
A polymer interlayer comprising a layer comprising a poly(vinyl acetal) resin having a residual hydroxyl content and a residual acetate content, and a plasticizer, wherein the residual hydroxyl content, the residual acetate content and the plasticizer are selected such that the polymer interlayer has at least one glass transition temperature less than about 20° C. and a peak tan delta of greater than 1.33, and a glass panel having a configuration of 2.3-mm glass//interlayer//2.3-mm glass and at 20° C. has a transmission loss, TL.sub.w, of greater than 42 decibels as measured by weighted average sound transmission loss at 2000 to 8000 Hz, and a transmission loss, TL.sub.c, of greater than 38 decibels at the coincident frequency is disclosed.
Multiple layer interlayer having improved optical and sound insulation properties
Multilayered interlayers having good acoustic properties comprising a stiff skin layer(s) and a soft core layer(s) are disclosed. The multilayered interlayers comprise: a first polymer layer (skin layer) comprising plasticized poly(vinyl acetal) resin; a second polymer layer (core layer) comprising plasticized poly(vinyl acetal) resin; wherein at least one plasticizer is a high refractive index plasticizer. The multilayered interlayers have low mottle and resist mottle formation.
Poly(vinyl acetal) resin compositions, layers, and interlayers having enhanced optical properties
Resin compositions, layers, and interlayers comprising two or more thermoplastic polymers and at least one RI balancing agent for adjusting the refractive index of at least one of the resins or layers is provided. Such compositions, layers, and interlayers exhibit enhanced optical properties while retaining other properties, such as impact resistance and acoustic performance.
Composite fabric member and methods
A planar article in the form of a thin strip is shown. The article, comprising a fabric and a polymer, can be formed into a variety of shapes. A hollow profile made from the article by forming a seam using opposing edges of the strip to enclose a volume. A thermoplastic extrusion formed composite structural member and method for making is disclosed. In one embodiment, the composite structural member includes a first web made from a first material and a first resin, a second web made from a second material different from the first material, a third web made from a third material and a third resin, and a fourth web made from a fourth material.
GLAZING COMPRISING A SWITCHABLE DEVICE, LAMINATED STRUCTURE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OF A GLAZING
A glazing (10) comprising a switchable optical device (26) is proposed. The switchable optical device (26) has a layer structure comprising in this order a first substrate (12), a switchable layer (18) and a second substrate (24).
Further, at least one of the first substrate (12) and the second substrate (24) is attached to a further sheet (30) by means of an adhesive tape (40) or an optically clear adhesive (48).
Further aspects of the invention relate to a laminated structure and an insulated glazing unit comprising such a glazing (10) and a method for manufacturing of such a glazing (10).
METHODS FOR FORMING ASYMMETRIC GLASS LAMINATES USING SEPARATION POWDER AND LAMINATES MADE THEREFORM
Embodiments of a laminate and methods of forming a laminate using a separation media are providing. The method includes providing a first glass substrate, disposing separation media on top of the first glass substrate on the second major surface, the separation media being disposed in a predetermined pattern; providing a second glass substrate and forming a stack with the first and second glass substrates and the separation media disposed therebetween; and heating the stack to form a co-shaped stack having a first curved glass substrate and a second curved glass substrate. The predetermined pattern has a first region of separation media and a second region of separation media that is closer to an edge of the second major surface, where a thickness of the second region is greater than a first thickness of the first region.
