SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRINTING ON A CLEAR POLYMERIC FILM WEB

A system (20) and method for printing on clear polymeric film web (24) are disclosed. A first stationary inkjet print unit (44, 60, 70, 82) has first ejection nozzles that span a width of the clear polymeric film web and a second stationary inkjet print unit (44, 60, 70, 82) has second ejection nozzles that span the width of the clear polymeric film web. A web transport conveys the clear polymeric film web past the stationary inkjet print units. First and second print controllers operate the first and second and stationary inkjet print units to deposit drops of a first and a second material on the clear polymeric film web at a first and a second resolution, respectively. In addition, dimensions and position of a page element to be printed on the clear polymeric film web are adjusted to compensate for distortion that may occur to the printed page element due to shrinking of the clear polymeric film web.

Included are a first roller disposed upstream of a peeling unit, a second roller disposed downstream of the peeling unit, a first motor configured to drive the first roller, a second motor configured to drive the second roller, and a control unit. The control unit includes a first-motor control unit configured to adjust a first voltage applied to the first motor on the basis of information about a transport velocity and a transport acceleration of the label sheet, such that a load torque of the first motor is a target torque, and also includes a second-motor control unit configured to perform feedback control of a second voltage applied to the second motor on the basis of information about a transport velocity of a base sheet, such that the transport velocity of the base sheet is a target transport velocity.

A printer includes a printing head, a nail information detection unit, an outline comparison determination unit, and a display unit. The printing head prints on a print target. The nail information detection unit detects a base outline that is a base outline in an area including the print target and a non-print target adjacent to the print target. The outline comparison determination unit compares a print outline that is an outline of an area to be printed on the print target with the base outline, and determines whether or not there is a difference equal to or larger than a set value. The display unit reports, as a reporting unit, to a user that the difference determined by the outline comparison determination unit is equal to or larger than the set value.

An apparatus and methods of decorating a metallic container are provided. More specifically, the present invention relates to apparatus and methods used to provide a decoration or indicia on a predetermined portion of an outer surface of a metallic container body. The decorator includes at least one digital print unit, a transfer blanket, and a support element. The digital print unit transfers a decorating material to the transfer blanket to form a decoration on the transfer blanket. The support element then moves a metallic container into contact with the transfer blanket. In this manner, the decorating material is transferred to an exterior surface portion of the metallic container to decorate the metallic container. In one embodiment, the digital print unit is an electrophotographic system which transfers a toner material to the transfer blanket. In another embodiment, the digital print unit includes an inkjet print head which transfers an ink to the transfer blanket. Optionally, the decorator may include two or more support elements.

TECHNIQUE FOR MARKING A PROLATE OBJECT

A device (100) for providing a tube arranged or arrangeable in a circumferentially closed manner around a prolate object (102), preferably around a conductor, as a marking (101) of the object (102) is described. The device (100) comprises a printer (200) for outputting a printed tube (214) in longitudinal direction (210) or a material interface (156) for receiving a printed tube (214) output from a printer (200) in longitudinal direction (210). Further, the device (100) comprises a cutting unit (120) configured to cut through the printed tube (214) at a cutting position of the tube (214) in a transverse direction (121) transverse, preferably perpendicular, to the longitudinal direction (210) of the tube. At least at the intersection, an upper half of the tube and a lower half of the tube, terminally or insidely, abut on each other or are connected to each other. Further, the device (100) comprises an opening unit (122) for opening the upper and lower halves of the tube. The opening unit comprises at least two opening rollers (123), each rotatable about a rotational axis (123A). The respective rotational axis (123A) is perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction (210) and the transverse direction (121). The at least two opening rollers (123) abut against the cut and printed tube on opposite sides in the transverse direction (121).
