Belt drive for rewritable display medium

A belt drive includes a belt and at least one pair of spaced apart rails extending in a first direction and defining a gap. The belt is aligned with the gap and to be driven in an endless loop with the belt including a first movable portion external to the gap on a first side of the rails and a second movable portion biased to be recessed within the gap on an opposite second side of the rails. A rewritable display medium is releasably engageable in a sandwiched position between a slidable contact surface of the rails and a first segment of the second movable portion external to the gap to move the display medium in the first direction for contact-less imaging via a unit spaced from the rails.

Multiple first suction holes in communication with the first suction box (14) are provided on the transport belt (11). At least one side of the first suction box (14) is provided with a movable door (15) which moves in a direction perpendicular to the transport direction to make the first suction box (14) fit the sheet material to maintain a negative pressure state. Using the transport belt (11) during printing, the digital printing device avoids the problem of poor registration accuracy, and improves the printing effect.

The sensor and the ink jet print head are moved relative to the card using the gantry. A current position of the card is detected using the sensor. An image is printed to the card using the ink jet print head when the detected current position of the card indicates that the card is supported on the transport belt in a print position. Printing is interrupted when the detected current position of the card indicates that the card is not in the print position.
