A duplex printing system and method of configuring the same are described. In examples, an image, such as a test pattern, on one side of a print substrate is printed to be out of phase with an image, such as a test pattern, on the other side of the print substrate. This is achieved by adjusting a configuration of a print buffer that is located between first and second print engines of the duplex printing system. In particular examples, a length of a web within the print buffer is controlled such that the images are out of phase.

In accordance with an embodiment, a receipt printer comprises a discharge port configured to discharge a receipt, a conveyance section configured to convey a paper becoming the receipt to the discharge port; a clamping section configured to clamp the paper at an upstream side of the discharge port in a conveyance direction of the paper; and a controller configured to control the clamping section and the conveyance section such that the paper is bent into a loop shape to be discharged from the discharge port by clamping a front end of the paper with the clamping section and conveying the paper towards the discharge port while the front end of the paper is clamped by the clamping section.

A web handling system is disclosed. The web handling system includes first dancer rollers coupled to engage and move a web of a print medium in a forward and backward direction upon stopping a printing operation and allow forward motion during the printing operation.

Meandering of a medium at a time of transporting is reduced. A recording apparatus which transports medium and performs recording on the medium is provided. The apparatus includes a recording unit, a medium clamping unit which is provided on a side further upstream than the recording unit in a transport direction, and clamps the medium therebetween, and a medium support unit which is provided on the side further upstream than the medium clamping unit in the transport direction, and supports the medium. The medium is slackened between the medium clamping unit and the medium support unit.

An apparatus for manipulating a printable medium for the use in a printer is described. The apparatus comprises a drag device, a feed device and a lock device. The drag device conveys the printable medium to a printing area. The feed device feeds the printable medium to the drag device. The lock device is disposed between the feed device and the drag device. The lock device temporarily fixes a first portion of the printable medium so as to cause a second portion of the printable medium being in contact with the drag device to slip along the drag device.

A web handling system is disclosed. The web handling system includes first dancer rollers coupled to engage and move a web of a print medium in a forward and backward direction upon stopping a printing operation and allow forward motion during the printing operation.

A method of feeding a print medium comprises receiving a print medium by a media advance system; transporting the print medium by the media advance system to a print zone wherein the transporting comprises applying a first normal force when the print medium is at a first position of the media advance system and applying a second normal force when the print medium is at a second position of the media advance system, wherein the second normal force is different from the first normal force.

A printing machine for printing on a web includes a first roller and a second roller between which the web forms a loop. A trough for pneumatically guiding the loop equidistantly to the major part of the length of curvature of the trough is provided between the first roller and the second roller.

A recording device includes a carriage including a recording head configured to discharge liquid onto a medium and being movable in an intersecting direction, the intersecting direction intersecting a transport direction of the medium, a suction platen facing the recording head and being configured to suck the medium, a transport mechanism provided upstream from the suction platen in the transport direction and configured to transport the medium downstream in the transport direction, a drying unit located downstream from the recording head in the transport direction, a medium suction mechanism configured to suck the medium fed to the drying unit, and a controller configured to control the transport mechanism. The controller is configured to form a curved portion by curving between the drying unit and the suction platen in the transport direction, a part of the medium.

A printing device reduces the load on the reel driver that drives a delivery reel. A controller drives a reel driver to turn at multiple drive speeds, including a minimum speed at which the circumferential speed of a media roll of the largest diameter is equal to, and a maximum speed at which the circumferential speed of a media roll of the smallest diameter is equal to, the conveyance speed of the media conveyor. When the amount of slack detected by a slack detector goes from between a first threshold and a second threshold that is less than the first threshold, to an amount of slack less than the first threshold, the controller changes the drive speed to one higher speed if the reel driver is not turning at the maximum speed, and stops the reel driver if the reel driver is turning at the maximum speed.
