Methods and apparatus to detect an ink ribbon based on types of light
Provided herein are devices, systems, methods and various means, including those related to printer systems and, more particularly, relate to methods, apparatuses, systems and other means for monitoring a printer ribbon. Some embodiments use a multi-element detector, which is configured to detect a particular type of light emitted from a light emitter. The multi-state detector can include two sensors, one of which includes a polarizer filter that blocks polarized light. Embodiments can be used to determine, among other things, whether or not a printer ribbon is installed in a printer without the use of a snap plate.
Sensor for identifying registration marks on a ribbon
In a method of detecting a location of a print section of a transfer ribbon, the transfer ribbon is fed in a feed direction relative to a print section sensor. The print section sensor includes a reflective sensor and a transmissive sensor. The reflective sensor is positioned upstream of the transmissive sensor relative to the feed direction. A registration mark on the transfer ribbon, which indicates the location of the print section on the transfer ribbon, is detected using the reflective sensor. The registration mark is detected using the transmissive sensor. The location of the print section is determined based on the detection of the registration mark using the transmissive sensor.

TAPE CARTRIDGE
The tape cartridge is attached or detached in an attaching and detaching direction to or from the tape printing device including a detecting portion for reading specification information of the tape cartridge from a detected portion by irradiating the detected portion disposed in the tape cartridge with detection light. The tape cartridge includes the detected portion disposed on a wall surface in the attaching and detaching direction; and a fitting portion that is disposed on a wall surface on a rear side in a mounting direction. The detected portion is disposed at a position facing the detecting portion when being mounted.
TAPE PRINTING DEVICE
A tape printing device on which a tape cartridge is mounted, the device includes a sensor unit that faces a specification reading pattern formed on a base end surface of the tape cartridge; and a unit energizing portion that energizes the sensor unit toward a base end surface side. The sensor unit has a sensor portion that irradiates a specification reading pattern with a detection light and reads the specification reading pattern, and a sensor holder that supports the sensor portion and presses the base end surface by energizing of the unit energizing portion.
Tape cartridge and tape printing device
A tape printing device includes a print unit having a print head, a cartridge loading section which is loaded with a tape cartridge accommodating a print tape, and a device case in which the cartridge loading section and the print unit are arranged and which has a tape discharge port through which the print tape is discharged. The tape cartridge has a first display section which is provided on a first surface of the tape cartridge and which displays a type of the print tape. A first opening is formed on a first outer surface of the device case where the tape discharge port is formed, and the first opening is formed in such a way that the first display section of the tape cartridge is visible.

Tape printing device and tape printing system
A tape printing device includes a cartridge loading section where a tape cartridge having a platen roller and a portion to be guided is loaded in an unloadable manner; two recess portions in which fingers for gripping the tape cartridge are inserted; a platen support shaft inserted in the platen roller; and a guide pin inserted in the portion to be guided. The guide pin is situated on a side opposite to the platen support shaft across an imaginary line connecting the two recess portions and is arranged at a site where a distance from the recess portion at a position farther from the first insertion shaft, of the two recess portions, is shorter than a distance from the recess portion at a position closer to the platen support shaft.
