A printing apparatus configured to perform printing while varying an amount of adjustment of a target of adjustment, executing: printing a first adjustment pattern on a printing medium; reading the printed first adjustment pattern to acquire a first adjustment amount; printing a part of a second adjustment pattern on the printing medium, the printed part of the second adjustment pattern corresponding to only a part of the amount of adjustment according to the first adjustment pattern; reading the printed part of the second adjustment pattern to acquire a second adjustment amount; setting a first parameter that is a result of adjusting the target of adjustment by using the first adjustment amount; and setting a second parameter that is a result of adjusting the target of adjustment by using the second adjustment amount.

A method of operating a printer separates the image content data for a sheet in a print job into multiple color separations and operates a digital air curtain between the printhead modules that print the multiple color separations. Image data of the printed color separations are used to adjust operating parameters for the digital air curtain.

An inspection device includes a reader including a light source and a light receiving element, a white reference section, a memory storing reference data of a white pixel value, and a controller. The controller is configured to cause the light source to emit light toward the white reference section, and receive a pixel signal output from the reader when the light receiving element receives reflected light from the white reference section, determine a rate of decrease in a pixel value relative to the reference data, based on the received pixel signal, when the rate of decrease is equal to or higher than a first threshold, output an instruction signal concerning an instruction to clean the reader, re-determine the rate of decrease in response to receiving input of a completion signal concerning completion of cleaning of the reader, and update the reference data using the re-determined rate of decrease.

A liquid discharge apparatus includes a recording device and a recording controller. The recording controller alternately performs a main scanning control and a sub-scanning control. The main scanning control controls discharging liquid while moving the recording device and a recording medium relative to each other in a main scanning direction. The sub-scanning control controls the recording device to discharge the liquid from at least two recording elements of the recording device, in accordance with at least two times of the main scanning control performed at positions on the recording medium in a sub-scanning direction. The recording device discharges the liquid, within a range in the sub-scanning direction corresponding to a position of the recording head. The recording controller performs the main scanning control for discharging the liquid based on discharge order mask patterns different from each other in a plurality of regions in the main scanning direction.

A multifunction peripheral includes a conveyance roller, a print engine, a scanner, and a controller. The controller is configured to perform: driving the conveyance roller to convey a recording medium and controlling the print engine to record, on the recording medium, a test image based on test image data with recording agent; after recording the test image, controlling the scanner to generate scan data of the test image recorded on the recording medium; after generating the scan data, extracting, based on the scan data and the test image data, stain data indicative of a stain caused by transfer of the recording agent from the conveyance roller to the recording medium; after extracting the stain data, generating correction data by removing the stain data from the scan data; and executing particular processing by using the correction data.

A method for printing on an item, that includes generating a scanned shape of the item, performing a lookup of the scanned shape in a shape database, making a determination that the scanned shape matches a saved shape in the shape database, and based on the determination, measuring an item rotation of the item, generating a transformed print image based on the item rotation, causing a printhead to print on the item using the transformed print image.

A dryer management system includes a global dryer control system and a closed loop dynamic dryer control system to manage drying of a material deposited on web. The global dryer control system analyzes information regarding a production run to determine a web conveyance speed and a maximum web temperature. The closed loop dynamic dryer control system monitors an indication of a temperature of the web to maintain the indication of the temperature below the maximum web temperature. The closed loop dynamic dryer control system also analyzes images of the web to determine if the material is being insufficiently dried.

A printing apparatus includes a printing unit configured to apply ink containing a coloring material, and a reactive liquid that reacts with the ink, to a printing medium, a reading unit configured to read an ink image on the printing medium, a printing control unit configured to cause the printing unit to print a plurality of ink images different in application amount of the reactive liquid on the printing medium, and a determination unit configured to determine an application amount of the reactive liquid in printing using a predetermined type of printing medium, based on a correlation between a plurality of reading results obtained by the reading unit by reading the plurality of ink images printed on the predetermined type of printing medium.

In an image forming apparatus, a correction processing unit prints a test pattern using a recording head, determines ink ejection malfunction positions on the basis of a scanned image of the test pattern, sets one of first and second correction modes for each of the ink ejection malfunction positions in accordance with a density of the ink ejection malfunction position on the basis of the scanned image, and performs the correction process for the ink ejection malfunction position in the set first or second correction mode. In the first correction mode, the correction process is performed for both a nozzle corresponding to the ink ejection malfunction position and an adjacent nozzle of the nozzle. In the second correction mode, the correction process is not performed for the nozzle corresponding to the ink ejection malfunction position but is performed for the adjacent nozzle.

A printing system comprises a transport apparatus adapted to transport a flexible web along a process direction and first and second individually controllable ink jet imager units offset from one another along the process direction. Each of the first imager unit and the second imager unit includes a first portion operable to print on a first portion of the web and a second portion operable to print on the second portion of the web wherein each of the first portion and second portion of the first and second imager units is stationary along the process direction and the lateral direction.
