Apparatuses, systems, and methods are provided for print media buffering and sorting. An apparatus for performing at least one of buffering and sorting during an operation includes an enclosure, a storage section within the enclosure, an input section configured to receive at the enclosure at least a portion of a printed element, a gripper associated with the input section, the gripper configured to selectively transport the at least a portion of the printed element from the input section to the storage section and to selectively transport the at least a portion of the printed element from the storage section within the enclosure, and an output section configured to selectively transfer the at least a portion of the printed element from the enclosure.

There is provided a binding member. The binding member includes: an upper toothed part having projections and recesses for forming irregularities in a bundle of recording materials; and a lower toothed part having projections and recesses for forming irregularities in the bundle of recording materials and forming a pair with the upper toothed part. In at least one of the upper toothed part and the lower toothed part, in side surfaces of the recesses of one toothed part, when the upper toothed part and the lower toothed part are engaged, surfaces wide in a direction parallel to the pressing direction of the toothed parts are formed so as to be provided gaps between the upper toothed part and the lower toothed part.

There is provided a binding member. To facilitate permeation of water when water is applied to the crimping range of a sheet made of a water-permeable paper material. A binding unit applies water to placed sheets and then crimp-binds the sheets. The binding unit includes a pair of pressure teeth (pressure teeth and receiving teeth part) provided on both the front and back sides of the sheets and configured to crimp-binding the sheets, a water reservoir provided on the back surface side of any one of the pressure teeth and configured to store water to be applied to the sheet, and a pressurizing member (piston) that pressurizes the water in the water reservoir to apply water to the sheet crimping range.

A layout editing apparatus capable of editing a layout of a plurality of sheets in a layout editing area displayed on a display unit in a case where the plurality of sheets is to be book-bound after being printed includes a determination unit and a layout unit. The determination unit determines, in the layout editing area, a layout-inhibited area where a layout of an object is inhibited, at a position corresponding to a portion at which the plurality of printed sheets is to be bound, with a size according to information about bookbinding. The layout unit lays out the object so as not to overlap with the layout-inhibited area determined by the determination unit.

An image forming apparatus includes: a first apparatus configured to perform punching on a sheet by using a punching member; a second apparatus, including a stacking part on which a plurality of sheets punched by the first apparatus is stacked, and configured to perform binding so as to obtain a bookbinding article in which a binding member penetrates in a ring shape through punched holes of the plurality of sheets; a notification unit notifying information; and a control unit configured, in a case of starting a job using the first apparatus and the second apparatus and determining that a jam has occurred in the stacking part, to cancel the job, and to cause the notification unit to notify that a thickness of a sheet stack stacked on the stacking part exceeds a thickness that enables to be bound by the binding member used by the second apparatus.

An image forming apparatus includes: a first apparatus configured to perform punching on a sheet by using a punching member; a second apparatus, including a stacking part on which a plurality of sheets punched by the first apparatus is stacked, and configured to perform binding so as to obtain a bookbinding article in which a binding member penetrates in a ring shape through punched holes of the plurality of sheets; a notification unit notifying information; and a control unit configured, in a case of starting a job using the first apparatus and the second apparatus and determining that a jam has occurred in the stacking part, to cancel the job, and to cause the notification unit to notify that a thickness of a sheet stack stacked on the stacking part exceeds a thickness that enables to be bound by the binding member used by the second apparatus.

Method for binding a bundle (5) of leaves (1) in a binding back (7), whereby the bundle (5) is placed in the binding back (7) with an edge (2) of the leaves (1) and fastened therein, characterized in that for the binding use is made of a bundle (5) of leaves (1) of which a strip (4) of each of the leaves (1) has been separately double folded beforehand along the same line to form a fold line (3) that extends parallel to and at a distance (A) from the aforementioned edge (2).

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit to form an image on a sheet, an intermediate processing tray where sheets conveyed through a first conveyance path are stacked as a sheet bundle, a sensor disposed at a second conveyance path to detect a conveyed sheet bundle, and a stacking tray in which sheets discharged through a discharging path diverging from the first conveyance path are stacked. In response to a sensor detected paper jam, a control unit determines the intermediate processing tray as the discharging destination for a sheet among the remaining sheets, and determines the stacking tray as the discharging destination for a sheet among the remaining sheets. After the paper jam is cleared, the control unit causes execution of bookbinding and cutting for a sheet bundle including the remaining sheets stacked in the intermediate processing tray.
