Security document with security feature
A security element for a security document comprises a first, second, third and fourth line grid which contrasts with the substrate surface, each of said grid being associated with a pattern comprising an embossed structure of the substrate. A first, second, third and fourth pattern angle differ from one another. A first security information item is coded as a first localized distribution of the first and second pattern, a second security information item is coded as a localized distribution of the third and the fourth pattern. The first and the second security information items overlap one another in the process. By disposing the first and second pattern in first grid cells and by disposing the third and fourth pattern in second grid cells and by arranging the first and second grid cells in alternating fashion, specific intensity distributions occur in different viewing directions of the security document, the intensity distributions being useful for examining the authenticity of the document.
Articles with confounded emission characteristics and methods and apparatus for their authentication
Embodiments include articles, authentication methods and apparatus, and article manufacturing methods. An article includes a substrate with a first luminescent taggant, and an extrinsic feature with a second luminescent taggant, which is positioned proximate a portion of the article surface. The first and second taggants produce emissions in overlapping emission bands as a result of exposure to excitation energy. Above the extrinsic feature, the substrate and extrinsic feature emissions combine in the overlapping emission band to produce confounded emissions that are distinguishable from the substrate emissions taken alone. An authentication system determines whether, in a region corresponding to a substrate-only region of an authentic article, emissions having first emission characteristics are detected in the overlapping emission band. The system also determines whether, in a region corresponding to an extrinsic feature region of an authentic article, the confounded emissions are detected in the overlapping emission band.

Anti-counterfeiting structure
The anti-counterfeiting structure includes an allochroic part having a characteristic of changing from a first material to a second material in response to laser irradiation, the allochroic part including a discolored part consisting only of the second material and having first information, and a foamable member having a characteristic of changing from an unfoamed state to a foamed state in response to laser irradiation, the foamable member including a foamed part that contains second information, the second information being associated with the first information and constituting, together with the first information, an information group unique to the anti-counterfeiting structure. At least a part of the discolored part does not overlap with the foamed part in a plan view of the discolored part and the foamed part.

Medium issuance system and medium issuance method
There is provided a medium issuance system which can easily transfer print on an intermediate transfer sheet to a polycarbonate transfer medium. The medium issuance system 50 includes an intermediate transfer sheet supply section 52 for supplying an intermediate transfer sheet 53 to a polycarbonate transfer medium 1, and a hot stamp 55 for heating and pressing the intermediate transfer sheet 53 to transfer print 10A, 10C on the intermediate transfer sheet 53 to the transfer medium 1. The hot stamp 55 heats and presses the intermediate transfer sheet 53 at a temperature of not less than 120? C. and not more than 200? C., and at a pressure of not less than 0.1 kgf/cm.sup.2 and not more than 1000 kgf/cm.sup.2.
WATERMARK AND OTHER SECURITY FEATURES FOR THERMOPLASTIC SECURITY DOCUMENTS
Micro-structures are formed within multilayer laminate security documents by embossing and/or debossing one or more thermoplastic layers prior to lamination of the layers. The embossed and/or debossed structures are arranged and/or formed in a way that creates a number of different security features, including a watermark formed by a relief micro-structure pattern on an opaque film (layer), a multi-color optically variable device, a 3-dimensional feature over kinegram/metallic ink and/or embossment/debossment over printed surfaces.
PRINTING INTAGLIO, PRINTING INTAGLIO MANUFACTURING METHOD, PRINT - MAKING METHOD, AND PRINT
A printing intaglio (100A), (100B) is a printing intaglio for use in intaglio printing, the printing intaglio having a surface which has a plurality of first recessed portions (12) that form a pattern to be printed, wherein at least one of the plurality of first recessed portions has a plurality of minute recessed portions (16p) inside the first recessed portion, and when viewed in a direction normal to the surface of the printing intaglio, a two-dimensional size of the plurality of minute recessed portions is not less than 10 nm and less than 500 nm.
