Systems and methods for identifying relay contact position within an appliance. In one embodiment, an appliance includes a first motor, a second motor, and a relay. The relay can be configured to be adjusted between at least a first position associated with a first circuit of the first motor and a second position associated with a second circuit of the second motor. The appliance can also include one or more control device(s) configured to identify the position of the relay within the appliance. For instance, the control device(s) can provide a test signal to the relay and detect an output signal that is based at least in part on the input signal. The output signal can be associated with the second circuit. The control device(s) can determine whether the relay is in the first position or the second position based at least in part on the output signal.

A method of operating an appliance includes receiving an initiation trigger to perform a flush operation, supplying water to a container of the appliance, draining the supplied water from the container, measuring a temperature of the supplied water to the container, determining that the temperature of the supplied water is above a predetermined temperature threshold, and halting the supply of water to the container via the water supply.

Provided herein is an arrangement for a dishwasher for creating a wash zone with a selectable position within a washing chamber of the dishwasher. The arrangement may include a water spray arm rotatably arranged around an axis in the washing chamber, and a support element arranged to support the spray arm in the washing chamber. The support element may lock the spray arm in at least one position within the washing chamber. The arrangement may include a control unit arranged to control the operation of the dishwasher and a user interface for selecting the desired wash zone position within the washing chamber, and arranged to communicate the information to the control unit. The control unit may lock the support element in the selected position to create the wash zone. A dishwasher that includes the arrangement and a method for creating a wash zone with a selectable position are provided.

A method for operating an electrical appliance during a religious observance period (e.g., the Sabbath or a holiday). The method includes receiving via a controller a timer command indicative of a start time for operation of the electrical appliance. The method further includes activating via the controller operation of the electrical appliance in response to the timer command. The activating step is carried out independently of a door position of a door of the electrical appliance so that the electrical appliance is not activated using an electrical sensor or button.
