A marker ensemble includes a multi-purpose marking tool and a sharpener. The marking tool has a shell, retention sleeve, compression spring, control tab, reversible disk holder, and cap. The shell has an exit opening, an access opening with a mounting socket, and a medially located lateral control slot through which the control tab extends. The retention sleeve has a collet, compressed by the compression spring and uncompressed by the control tab. The disk holder has a body with a retention ridge and a pair of lugs extending from each end to retain a marking disk. One marking disk has a circular periphery and the other marking disk has a toothed periphery. The cap is mounted upon either end. The sharpener includes a blade with a sharpened edge secured to a body with an upper surface, a peripheral surface with a shoulder, waist, and hip, and a lower surface.

A pencil sharpener is provided. The pencil sharpener comprising: a sharpener body configured to sharpen a pencil when inserted and rotated; a first guide rotationally coupled to the sharpener body, the first guide having a first opening sized and shaped to receive a circular, hexagon or oval pencil; and a second guide rotationally coupled to the sharpener body, the second guide assembly having a second opening sized and shaped to receive a circular, hexagon or oval pencil, the second opening being aligned with the first opening when the pencil is inserted through both the first opening and the second opening.

A pencil sharpener is provided. The present invention provides a sharpening completion detection mechanism that does not apply a heavy load to a core tip, and especially proposes a mechanism that moves a pencil in an ejection direction immediately when the sharpening completion detection mechanism detects completion of sharpening to mitigate damage to the core. Specifically, a pencil sharpener according to the present invention includes: a slide unit that translates in pencil insertion and pencil ejection directions; a pencil biasing means supported by the slide unit; a slide locking means that locks a translation position of the slide unit upon the slide unit translating in the insertion direction; and a slide unit unlocking means that releases the lock for the translation position of the slide unit upon the sharpening completion detection means detecting a fully sharpened state of the pencil, and includes slide unit ejecting means that biases the slide unit in the ejection direction with energy stored by movement of the slide unit to a lock position.
