A paint palette system for holding and dispersing paint wherein a painter can pour paint into a low profile receptacle for later removal with a paintbrush or like tool is provided. A disposable and removable paint retaining fabric retains the paint in a drip-less and mess free fashion. A system for watercolor painting, said system comprising a pallet of watercolor paint, wherein said pallet comprises a first watercolor paint and a second watercolor paint, and wherein the first and second watercolor paints comprise a dissimilar color; wherein the first water paint is adjacent, above, and parallel to the second water paint; wherein said pallet comprises a moisture content less than 20%.

A system for watercolor painting, said system comprising a pallet of watercolor paint, wherein said pallet comprises a first watercolor paint and a second watercolor paint, and wherein the first and second watercolor paints comprise a dissimilar color; wherein the first water paint is adjacent, above, and parallel to the second water paint; wherein said pallet comprises a moisture content less than 20%.

A method of forming a palette includes obtaining a foldable palette blank, the foldable palette blank including a working portion, the working portion defining a first working surface and a second working surface opposite from the first working surface, the working portion defining a working hand hole, the working portion defining a reservoir hole extending from the first working surface to the second working surface; and a support portion, the support portion defining a first support surface and a second support surface opposite from the first support surface, the support portion defining a support hand hole, the support portion configured to cover an end of the reservoir hole; positioning the working portion in facing contact with the support portion; aligning the working hand hole with the support hand hole; and covering the end of the reservoir hole with the support portion to form a reservoir.

A closable portable painting palette case has a glass paint mixing surface with a glazed or color backing. The glazed or color backing uses an automotive process that may include an adhesion promoter, a color application, an opaque base coat application, and a clear coat application. The glass paint mixing surface may be a shatter-resistant glass with a wrong or rough side and a right or smooth side, so that the glazed or color backing is applied to the wrong or rough side, leaving the right or smooth side for use in mixing paint smears. The glazing or color backing may be white, silver, or gray, depending on the application. A magnetic attachment may be provided for attaching the palette to a sketchbook or watercolor book for hands-free use. Molded or magnetic paint pans may be provided in the closable portable painting palette.

A computing device comprises a display, a memory storing a color matrix comprising a plurality of virtual paint chips each virtual paint chip representing a specified paint color, a user interface configured for receiving input data identifying a selected color and a processor configured to control the display to automatically display the color matrix such that the selected color is highlighted in the virtual paint chip arrangement. In embodiments, a retail paint chip display comprises a plurality of paint chips in a specified layout such that the relative location of each virtual paint chip in the color matrix corresponds to the layout of the retail paint chip display. In embodiments, a rendered scene is displayed based on a base image and at last one paintable surface defined by a plurality of locations in the base image.

A color selection and display system. A computing device comprises a display, a memory storing a color matrix comprising a plurality of virtual paint chips each virtual paint chip representing a specified paint color, a user interface configured for receiving input data identifying a selected color and a processor configured to control the display to automatically display the color matrix such that the selected color is highlighted in the virtual paint chip arrangement. In embodiments, a retail paint chip display comprises a plurality of paint chips in a specified layout such that the relative location of each virtual paint chip in the color matrix corresponds to the layout of the retail paint chip display.
