A cleaning system for outsoles includes a lid, a base, a support structure, a roller contained in the base covered by the lid. A disinfectant pad is provided on the roller. Opening the lid exposes the roller. Outsoles wiped against the disinfectant pad on the roller are disinfected. Optionally, a reservoir in the support structure may contain disinfectant for delivery to the disinfectant pad on the roller as needed. A foot pedal is provided for opening the lid.

A shoe care apparatus includes: a chamber including an air inlet and an air outlet; a first duct connected to the air outlet; an evaporator inside the first duct; a condenser inside the first duct; a second duct connecting the first duct to the air inlet; a holder in the chamber and connected to the air inlet; a first fan that circulate airs through the first duct, the second duct, the holder, and the chamber; a compressor inside a machine room of the shoe care apparatus, the compressor that discharges a refrigerant to the condenser; a second fan inside the machine room and that allows air in the machine room to flow; a temperature sensor that measures an outside air temperature; and a processor, wherein the processor controls an operation of the second fan based on the outside air temperature and an operation state of the compressor.

A method of retail engagement includes receiving a worn article from a user in a retail establishment, where the worn article includes dirt or debris on an outer surface of the article. The method then includes robotically cleaning the worn article to at least partially remove the dirt or debris on the outer surface. The cleaning comprises contacting the shoe with a rotating brush, and at least one of the worn article or the rotating brush is robotically manipulated to cause the contacting. Finally, the outer surface of the article may be adorned with one or more adornments, where the one or more adornments are selected by the user.
