The rim accepts two hub halves of which each is a frustum, such that clamping forces across the opposed conical surfaces of the pair of frusta firmly enforce concentricity between the axle and the rim and its tire. The rim and tire are connected to the axle exclusively by frictional coupling. Advantageously for changing a rim or tire, the hub parts can be quickly disassembled with common tools.

The rim includes a leading edge where the rim interfaces with a tire, and a sidewall extends from the leading edge. The rim includes a spoke face where one or more spokes extend from the bicycle rim. A reflexed blend portion is disposed between the sidewall and the spoke face. The reflexed blend portion allows the sidewall to have increased camber which lowers pressure drag. At the same time, the reflexed blend portion allows the spoke face to have a larger radius so as to provide greater steering stability, such as in gusty and/or high cross wind conditions.

The overlie engagement supports spoke tensile load.

The method includes a molten metal pouring step for pouring a light alloy molten metal from a sprue opened into a mold cavity formed into a shape of the rim part, and a forced cooling step for, after the molten metal pouring step, forcibly cooling the light alloy molten metal poured into the mold cavity formed into the shape of the rim part such that one predetermined cooling unit of a plurality of cooling units provided along an entire circumference on an outer side or an inner side of the mold cavity formed into the shape of the rim part is first operated and an other cooling unit thereof is then operated.

The second discontinuity (35) makes it easier to assemble to wheel and allows an optimal coupling to be made between the rim (5), inflation valve, and tire, in the case of a tubeless wheel, and between rim (5), air chamber and tire, in the case of a wheel with an air chamber.
