An object of the present invention is to provide a rubber composition which is excellent in cord adhesiveness, steering stability and elongation at break. The present invention relates to a rubber composition for coating a steel cord comprising not less than 0.12 part by mass of zinc benzoate and/or zinc t-butylbenzoate, 0.03 to 0.30 part by mass of fatty acid cobalt salt in terms of cobalt element, and less than 0.5 part by mass in total of a fatty acid having 16 to 22 carbon atoms and a fatty acid derived from the fatty acid cobalt salt which has 16 to 22 carbon atoms based on 100 parts by mass of a rubber component, and a tire having a breaker and/or a carcass obtained by use of the rubber composition for coating a steel cord.

The elastic modulus under tension at 10% elongation of a skim layer of a working crown layer is less than 8.5 MPa, the maximum value of tan() of the skim layer of a working crown layer is <0.100. First layer S comprises a filled elastomer blend having a macro dispersion coefficient Z65 and a maximum tan() value <0.100 and its complex dynamic shear modulus G*, measured at 10% and 60 C. on the return cycle is >1.35 MPa.

A rubber composition comprises at least one phenol/aldehyde resin based on at least one aromatic polyphenol comprising at least one aromatic ring bearing at least two hydroxyl functions in the meta position relative to one another, the two positions ortho to at least one of the hydroxyl functions being unsubstituted, and at least one aromatic polyaldehyde selected from 1,3-benzenedicarboxaldehyde, 1,4-benzenedicarboxaldehyde and mixtures of these compounds, the rubber composition having a nominal secant modulus at 10% elongation, measured according to standard ASTM D 412, 1998, of greater than or equal to 25 MPa.

Second layer S of polymer compound is in contact with at least one working crown layer and with the carcass reinforcement. The crown reinforcement includes at least one layer of circumferential reinforcing elements. The elastic modulus under tension at 10% elongation of first layer C is less than 8 MPa, the maximum value of tan() of first layer C is less than 0.100. The second layer S is made up of a filled elastomer blend having a macro dispersion coefficient Z greater than or equal to 65 and a maximum tan() value less than 0.100, and its complex dynamic shear modulus G*, measured at 10% and 60 C. on the return cycle, is greater than 1.35 MPa.

This invention relates to improved adhesion compositions and textile materials and articles treated therewith. The improved adhesion composition comprises a non-crosslinked resorcinol-formaldehyde and/or resorcinol-furfural condensate (or a phenol-formaldehyde condensate that is soluble in water), a rubber latex, and an aldehyde component such as 2-furfuraldehyde. The composition may be applied to textile substrates and used for improving the adhesion between the treated textile substrates and rubber materials. End-use articles that contain the treated textile-rubber composite include, without limitation, automobile tires, belts, and hoses as well as printing blankets.
