A method for reducing energy consumption by a medium heating device, the method comprising the step: scheduling an operation (501) of the first device (111) requiring heating of a first medium; scheduling an operation (502) of the second device (112) requiring heating of a second medium; the method being characterized in that it further comprises the steps of: sending (504), from the first device (111), information regarding its operation cycles and water parameters to the second device (112); rescheduling (505) operations of the liaised devices (111, 112) so that drain heat of the first medium is reused to heat a fresh intake of the second medium by the second device by means of a heat exchanger (160); instructing (506), the reprogrammed devices (111, 112) to start their operations according to the new schedule.

WASHING APPLIANCE WITH IMPROVED CIRCULATION PUMP CONTROL

A washing appliance is provided, including: a tub configured to house items to be washed; an inlet valve operable to be selectively switched between an open condition for causing washing fluid to be loaded into the tub and a closed condition for preventing washing fluid be fed to the appliance; a circulation pump configured to circulate the washing fluid in the tub during a washing cycle; a control unit configured to determine an operative state of the circulation pump between a saturation state indicative that sufficient washing fluid is present in the tub to prevent air from being drawn out by the circulation pump, and a starvation state indicative that insufficient washing fluid is present in the tub to prevent air from being drawn out by the circulation pump. The control unit is further configured to receive an indication of a target speed for the circulation pump (130) and accordingly control the circulation pump by: causing a speed of the circulation pump to increase towards the target speed with a first speed increase rate; if the following two conditions a) and b) are both true: a) a starvation state of the circulation pump is determined before the speed of the circulation pump reached the target speed, and b) the inlet valve is in the open condition, causing the speed of the circulation pump to increase towards the target speed with a second speed increase rate lower than the first speed increase rate.

Pre-soak option for dishwashers

A dishwasher includes an independent presoak system which may be activated by a user of the dishwasher. The dishwasher presoak system utilizes a storage tank, supply tubes, and set of nozzles which are independent from components used in a washing cycle such that a presoak detergent is applied to items placed within a washing compartment of the dishwasher without being diluted by a standard wash cycle. As part of the presoak system, the dishwasher features a detection system which allows the user to select an automatic presoak operating state whereby the dishwasher utilizes a sensor to determine if items placed into the washing compartment are sufficiently dirty to need a presoak cycle prior to a washing cycle. The dishwasher further relies on a control system to analyze samples taken of the dirtiness levels of items placed within the washing compartment and determine whether a presoak option is necessary or suggested.
