A trailer hitch system for a vehicle such as a car, truck, or SUV, and trailer comprising an overcab portion substantially parallel to a roof of the truck. The overcab portion comprises a roof connector located generally equidistant from either lateral side of the roof and is aligned with a door pillar, and a hitch for connecting the trailer. The overcab portion further comprises a forward frame portion extending from the overcab portion with a forward frame connector and a rearward frame portion extending from the overcab portion with a rearward frame connector, both of which connect to the frame of the vehicle.

Telematics road ready system including a bridge integrator unit

A trailer monitoring system for monitoring a trailer having at least one trailer sensor has a bridge integrator unit, configured to couple with the trailer, including a wireless data transceiver electrically coupled with a microcontroller and capable of wirelessly communicating data over a short-range wireless protocol; the bridge integrator unit receives data existing in a first messaging format that is compatible with and used by one or more trailer sensors via a short-range wireless protocol, extracts the data, encodes the data into a second messaging format that is compatible with a master control unit having a telematic data transceiver capable of cellular data communications, and transmits the data in the second messaging format from the bridge integrator unit to the master control unit via a short-range wireless protocol.

Towing systems and methods using magnetic field sensing

A magneto-elastically-based active force sensor, used with a tow coupling between a towed and a towing vehicle or a coupling between a vehicle body and a suspension of the vehicle, which outputs a signal useful for determining forces acting on the coupling. The outputted force information may be provided by processor-enabled embedded software algorithms that take inputs from the force sensor and other sensors, may be used by one or more vehicle systems during operating of the vehicle, such as engine, braking, stability, safety, and informational systems. The force sensor includes directionally-sensitive magnetic field sensing elements inside the sensor, and shielding may be used around the sensors to reduce the influence of external magnetic fields on the sensing elements. The force sensor may be used with different tow and vehicle weight sensing coupling devices installed on different types of automobile cars and trucks.

DOLLY VEHICLE WITH ADJUSTABLE DRAWBAR MECHANISM

A drawbar arrangement for a dolly vehicle, the drawbar arrangement comprising a control unit and an adjustable drawbar attached to the dolly vehicle, the adjustable drawbar comprising a front coupling element arranged to be adjusted vertically with respect to a ground plane by the control unit, wherein the control unit is arranged to determine a vertical coupling load associated with the front coupling element, and wherein the control unit is arranged to set a desired vertical coupling load associated with the front coupling element by vertically adjusting the front coupling element when coupled to a towing vehicle unit.

Active integrated deflector

A method for controlling a vehicle includes providing a first vehicle having a deflection system, a control system includes a controller electronically connected to the deflection system, and a first tow connection, the deflection system including a movable deflection member and at least one actuator coupled to the deflection member, providing a second vehicle coupled to the first vehicle, the second vehicle having a second tow connection, providing at least one sensor coupled to the first vehicle and electronically connected to the control system, the at least one sensor configured to capture data corresponding to a frontal area of the second vehicle, monitoring, by the controller, sensor data received from the at least one sensor, and automatically generating, by the controller, a control signal to control the at least one actuator.

Hitch angle detection using automotive radar

A vehicle trailer detection system includes a radar system and a controller receiving object point location data from the radar system at an increased sensitivity level, storing sequential first and second object point location data sets, and applying a rotational point set registration to the first and second object point location data sets to achieve a match between a subset of persistent point locations within the first and second object point location data sets to output an estimated rotation angle. The persistent point locations in the first and second data sets are determined to correspond with detected points on a trailer coupled with the vehicle. The controller refines the estimated rotation angle by minimizing an error in matching between the persistent point locations in the first and second object point location data sets to output a determined hitch angle between the trailer and the vehicle about a coupling point.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Tightener
20230098346 · 2023-03-30 ·

A hitch tightener is used around the lip of a hitch receiver tube and a shank inserted into the hitch receiver tube. The hitch tightener has a U-bolt with two threaded legs, and a crossbar with throughholes for the legs of the U-bolt, positioned so the crossbar and the U-bolt encircle the shank and the receiver tube lip. A standard threaded nut holds the crossbar onto one of the legs, and a cam lock lever is pivotally attached on the other leg by a threaded trunnion nut. When the cam lock lever is pivoted from its opened position to its closed position, it moves the crossbar toward the connecting portion of the clamp component, tightening the hitch tightener around shank and lip.

Monobar hitch system

A hitch system for distributing weight from a trailer to the wheels of a towing vehicle. The system has a hitch head that is pivotally connected to a hitch bar and is pivotable about a hitch head axis with respect to the hitch bar. A hitch pin is rotatably fixed to the hitch head and the hitch pin is rotatable with respect to the hitch head about a hitch pin axis. The hitch pin axis is transverse to the hitch head axis. A single spring is pivotally connected to the hitch head and is pivotable with respect to the hitch head about a spring axis. A distal end of the spring spaced from the spring axis is connectable to the trailer when the trailer is connected to the hitch pin and the spring can provide a biasing force when the distal end of the spring is moved nearer the trailer.
